The Workers’ Compensation Claim Adjuster investigates and evaluates claims while developing a plan of action to bring each claim to proper resolution in a timely and effective manner. This role requires strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to handle multiple claims and maintain excellent client service.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate claims, including interviewing employees, employers, and witnesses
- Obtain and review necessary records, including hospital, physician, and police reports
- Conduct EDI/CMS/Section 111 reporting accurately and timely
- Utilize preferred vendors as appropriate
- Prepare and present thorough, factual reports and recommendations to clients
- Maintain accurate documentation and diary notes for ongoing claims
- Attend client and internal meetings as required
- Keep current on principles, practices, and new developments in workers’ compensation claims
- Maintain compliance with state-specific licensing requirements
- Respond promptly and courteously to client questions and concerns
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills, knowledge & expertise
- Strong ability to understand and follow oral and written policies, procedures, and instructions
- Capacity to perform a wide variety of tasks accurately and efficiently under time-sensitive deadlines
- Skill in conducting multi-party investigations
- Proficiency in standard and customized software applications for claims management
- Ability to prepare and present reliable and factual reports with clear recommendations
- Thorough knowledge of workers’ compensation claims adjustment practices
- Extensive knowledge of medical terminology and treatment documentation
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Adaptable and able to learn quickly in a fast-changing environment
- Knowledge of multi-state workers’ compensation laws and regulations a plus
- 3–5 years’ experience handling workers’ compensation claims
- College degree or equivalent business experience
