Essential functions (job duties):

The Department of Mathematics at Wayne StateUniversity invites applications for a tenure-trackposition at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin on 8/18/2026. The search is open to candidates in Optimization, Stochastic Modeling, and Applied Probability—fields foundational to complex systems modeling andcentral to modern machinelearning. Candidates whose researchincludes computational components or contributes to the mathematical foundations of artificial intelligence are particularly encouraged to apply. The successfulcandidate will be expected to establish anindependent, externally funded research program and demonstrate potential for excellence in both teachingand service.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a closely related field by the start date.

Demonstrated potential for high-quality research and effective teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
