General Purpose of Job: The Clinical Excellence Specialist provides support for quality performance across University of Michigan Health Partners and the University of Michigan Health Regional CIN. This role will help to improve healthcare quality by analyzing data, developing protocols, providing training and collaborating with various teams on process improvement initiatives. The Clinical Excellence Specialist is responsible for reviewing quality performance, designing, implementing, and monitoring the effectiveness of interventions to improve performance.
Skills and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in healthcare-related field, health administration, computer science, or a closely related discipline. Registered Nurse (RN) license is strongly preferred
Minimum of three (3) of experience implementing and/or supporting clinical information systems or project management. At least two (2) years previous experience in managed health care environment, including data management.
Strong analytical, interpersonal and communication skills. Effective interaction with staff, customers and vendors, required.
Project management skills, with ability to prioritize multiple projects in relation to the organization’s strategic and tactical focus required.
Strong knowledge of quality programs and regulatory requirements for eligible providers.
Demonstrated ability to plan and design programs, assess application interdependencies, and analyze functional operations (structured analysis) strongly preferred.
Ability to communicate technical issues to nontechnical audiences.
Ability to work independently and interdependently with multiple teams required. Ability to establish personal goals and take responsibility for meeting them within defined timelines.
Minimum Duties:
Supports the design and execution of regional quality improvement strategies across UM Health Partners and UM Health CIN, ensuring alignment with network goals and priorities.
Collaborate with clinical teams to identify performance gaps, support improvement efforts and the implementation of corrective action plans.
Develop, document, and improve operational policies and procedures to support quality and safety initiatives.
Ensure compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements including developing systems to ensure continual organizational readiness; gather, synthesize, and analyze data from departments; provide consultation to departments around compliance initiatives; and monitor the progress of improvement projects.
Analyzes data to identify and effectively communicate trends, ensure all regulatory reporting metrics are monitored and reported, and communicate with internal and external customers.
In collaboration with the HITS team and Population Health analytics teams, validates, maintains and troubleshoots clinical performance dashboards.
In partnership with HITS, collaborate on the design and validation of supportive EMR tools to help drive performance and coordinate training for relevant stakeholders.
Respond to provider inquiries related to quality metrics, documentation and improvement strategies, and escalating complex issues as needed.
Provide onsite education and support for clinics across the region. Provide support and guidance to single, multiple and/or concurrently running projects of small, medium or large initiatives.
Assist in preparing status reports, proposals and presentations as assigned. Support monthly CIN – Clinical Integration and Quality Committee meeting. Monitoring payer programs to align quality performance and programing.
