Description
Job Purpose: The ASC, Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing direct nursing care to patients under the direction of the physician as necessary. Under the direction of the RN Manager (and Clinical Director), the ASC RN contributes to GU by assisting with the provision of safe and effective clinical care in accordance with a defined scope of practice. The ASC RN must demonstrate a higher level of critical thinking and problem-solving skills in directing the functions and partnering with licensed staff.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Screen, assess, plan and evaluate the nursing care needs of patients pre-operatively, on the day of surgery, peri-operatively and post-operatively in accordance with established GU policies, procedures and protocols as needed.
- Compare lab reports as received from lab to verify tests ordered are reported to office.
- Prepare/administer injections per physician request and/or orders and assist physician as needed during patient exams and minor office surgical procedures.
- Verify new supplies, distribute as appropriately and assure proper stocking of exam and treatment rooms as needed.
- Perform recovery room nursing duties for the immediate post-surgical patient by monitoring airways, circulation, vital signs, and pain management.
- Assist the physician as needed during patient exams and minor office surgical procedures
- Conduct pre-operative review of records with anesthesia to determine clearance for surgery.
- Understands physician preferences and ensures those preferences are adhered to as indicated.
- Utilizes appropriate body mechanics in moving patients, stretchers, and OR tables and other equipment to prevent injury to patient and self.
- Recognizes emergency situations and responds effectively.
- Remains aware of safety precautions required to minimize the possibility of patient injuries
- Demonstrates knowledge related to maintenance, cleanliness, and sterilization of instruments and equipment.
- Maintains a sanitary environment for the provision of patient care.
- Checks for outdated sterile supplies.
- Functions independently according to job responsibilities and within scope of practice utilizing current standards of care.
- Takes personal initiative to maintain current ACLS.
- Attends all mandatory in-services, staff meetings, and participates in emergency drills.
- Completes annual competency and other required education as assigned.
- Always maintain confidentiality of records and patient information.

Qualifications

- Maintains current knowledge of surgical procedures and techniques.
- Knowledge of current practice related to hand hygiene, and sterile technique.
- Knowledge of current practice of decontamination, high level disinfectant, aseptic, and sterilization procedures.
- Demonstrates attention to detail by ensuring that all documentation is legible, complete, and accurate.
- Observes patient for symptoms which may indicate a change in condition; reports significant observations to the appropriate member of the medical team for immediate attention.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Work hours may vary based on patient care needs.
- Ability to sit/stand for long periods of time, ability to walk, bend, stoop, and stretch.
- Capability for overhead and low reaching activities.
- Requires coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to perform all clinical nursing tasks and to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, and occasional use of other office equipment.
- Requires normal range of hearing/eyesight/voice projection to record, prepare, and communicate appropriately.
- Physical strength for equipment needs and patient care activities; may require frequent lifting/moving up to 50 pounds and occasional lifting/moving more than 50 pounds.
- Subject to varying and unpredictable situations, high stress/pressure, handles emergency or crisis situations, regular interaction with emotional patients and/or family members.
Knowledge: Education/Training
Associate degree required.
B.S. Degree from an accredited school of nursing preferred.
ACLS Certification required.
Must have minimum of 2 years PACU experience.
Applicable certification preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
Computer literacy:
Must have working knowledge of network and PC operating systems.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations
R.N. Licensure is required.
Driving Requirements:
A valid State of Georgia Driver's License and reliable transportation is required. Must be able to work at alternate work locations as needed
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical Demands: Physical Demands: Hearing within normal range. Must be able to auscultate blood pressure and hear soft voices. Must be able to clearly communicate instructions, relay information to personnel, patients and family members. Visual acuity within normal range, must be able to prioritize. This is a fast-paced environment with lots of walking and standing.
Work Environment: Fast paced environment with lots of walking and standing. Occasional overtime may be required and/or hours may be shortened as business needs dictate
