Job Summary:

The Senior US Medical Lead, Hyaluronic Acid Fillers serves as an internal scientific expert to partner with the Injectable Aesthetic business’s Restylane Franchise of hyaluronic acid filler products. This role acts as the primary medical affairs interface for the dedicated US teams (e.g.., marketing, sales, field medical affairs, and others) by developing and implementing the US Medical Strategy for the Restylane Franchise portfolio.

This primarily involves leading, coordinating, and implementing projects according to the business unit’s needs by leveraging scientific asset management through novel claims and creation of medical documents (e.g. slide decks, etc), helping to develop educational content for health care providers (HCPs), developing and implementing a US publication strategy, training the sales and field medical affairs teams, partnering with the Global Medical Affairs team to localize global strategy, and other key activities.

Additionally, this position plays an integral leadership role in a cross-functional, collaborative environment by providing scientific expertise to the Regulatory Affairs, Legal, Compliance, and other key stakeholders. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with key internal U.S. and Global stake holders in the business unit to generate the US Medical Plan for Restylane and provide scientific insights and recommendations in the execution of strategy and tactics

  • Produces, coordinates, manages, and presents medical and scientific content for given medical area (e.g., abstracts, posters, publications, medical decks, speaker programs, advisory boards, product-related education materials, study guides, internal-presentations) including Medical and strategic review of all deliverables produced by various teams

  • Constantly reviews scientific literature, publications, and other relevant sources to remain current on new data and developments to shape the medical strategy and educate internal and external stakeholders

  • Produce, coordinate, and manage medical and scientific content of scientific materials in collaboration with medical education agencies and medical communication colleagues as needed

  • Provide scientific information and literature review in support of Medical Information and field medical colleagues

  • Identifies, develops, and maintains relationships with scientific influencers (MD/DOs, PA/NPs); collaborates with scientific influencers, advocacy partners, and the field medical team to learn of customer needs, scientific gaps, trends, opportunities for clinical trials, business development, etc.

  • Trains external scientific influencers/speakers on content for medical and promotional events; participates in speaker training programs as the medical/scientific expert

  • Develops educational materials in collaboration with Marketing and Commercial Excellence to assist in field sales training as needed

  • Ensures the integrity of the scientific data used in all promotional claims and materials for internal and external use

  • Other duties as assigned 

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree preferred (PharmD, PhD, MD) in a scientific or clinical discipline; consideration will be given for other degrees (e.g. RN, PA, NP) with relevant industry experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a medical affairs based role in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or medical device industry. (More or less experience may be considered with job title commensurate with relevant experience).

  • Experience in an industry setting with a clear understanding of the relationship between marketing/brand/commercial teams and medical/regulatory affairs teams

  • Demonstrated success in leveraging clinical and scientific data to partner with the commercial teams to drive business strategy

  • Robust ability to tailor scientific narratives and assets of complex scientific concepts for a range of audiences from field sales teams to key thought leaders (KTLs)

  • Superior soft skills and demonstrated credibility with medical professionals and an ability to foster new relationships while maintaining existing ones

  • Able to forge cross functional relationships in seeking to reach scientific consensus within the organization

  • Excellent presentation and communication skills ranging from 1:1 interactions through an audience of 500 HCPs

  • Strong organizational and analytic understanding of a dynamic, pharmaceutical environment

  • Ability to travel as required, including weekends (up 10% of the year)
