SUMMARY: The EAST LYME Registered Nurse will provide comprehensive school health services for all students and maintain students health records.
RELATIONSHIP WITHIN THE ORGANIZATION: The EAST LYME Registered Nurse will act as a member of the EAST LYME interdisciplinary team in planning and implementing the health care plans and educational programs of the students. The individual filling this position will be responsible to the Nursing Supervisor and the Director of Student Services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Other duties may be assigned. The EAST LYME Registered Nurse shall: • Maintain current health records and emergency medical information on all students as directed by state regulations. • Implement screening programs for mandated by the State of Connecticut. • Develop an individual nursing care plan to meet the cultural, educational, emotional, mental, physical and social needs of the student. (when needed) • Participates in the development of policies and procedures to ensure optimum health of all staff and students. • Attend team meetings when indicated by the student's individual needs including 504’s and PPTs. • Provide OSHA training and Hepatitis B injections as requested by EAST LYME. • Collaborate with agencies within and outside the community to ensure continuity of service and care. • Participate in continuing education programs to increase knowledge and update skills. Assume professional responsibilities through membership and active participation in appropriate professional organizations. • Lift/restrain students when necessary. • Maintain working relationship with EAST LYME school medical advisor. • Participates in the planning, evaluation, and promotion of the school health program (health services, health education, school environment) • Plans for health care emergency protocols, and transportation and classroom adaptations for students with special health care needs • Uses a systematic problem-solving approach to assess the student health status, make a nursing diagnosis, plan appropriate interventions, anticipate expected outcomes, and evaluate results. • Provide first aid and emergency care
