Job Title: Electrical Safety Champion

The Electrical Safety Champion is a pivotal role within the Linxon Business, reporting to the Global HSE Manager. The Electrical Safety Champion is accountable that electrical safety has been fully considered within all associated aspects of Linxon’s engineering design and operational activities. This role involves supporting high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) design, assisting with the effective management of impressed voltage, and providing comprehensive specialist electrical safety support to the project sites. The Electrical Safety Champion will support Hub and local HSE Managers to ensure that Engineering and Operations Teams, Project Managers, and Installation and Commissioning Management are adequately planning for and considering electrical safety, impressed voltage management, electrical installation and commissioning activities. Whilst there is a strong focus around electrical safety, the position will also include supporting the Global HSE Manager with general HSE responsibilities in a construction environment. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership, and strategic thinking to uphold the highest standards of electrical engineering safety and operational excellence.

Objectives of the role
Engineering for Electrical Safety:
Procedure: Support the Engineering Teams with development and implementation of comprehensive electrical safety protocols and guidelines.
Process: Regularly review and update engineering safety procedures in conjunction with other discipline leads to comply with the latest regulations and standards.
Resources/Equipment: Specialist input into selection / development of electrical safety gear (PPE), electrical safety manuals, compliance processes and software, training materials.
Support HV/LV Working and Commissioning Activities:
Procedure: Support local HSE Organizations in providing oversight and authorisation for relevant personnel / contractors, ensuring the correct application of processes. This includes surveillance of planning for, coordinating, and overseeing HV/LV commissioning activities to ensure compliance and safety. Provide hands on support upon request by Global or Hub HSE Managers.
Process: Ensure development and implementation of commissioning plans is properly monitored, and that competence checks, pre-commissioning checks are conducted, and ensure all activities are appropriately documented.
Resources/Equipment: HV/LV testing / electrical safety equipment, commissioning tools, project management software.
Manage Impressed Voltage (IV):
Procedure: Accountable for strategies to ensure effective management of impressed voltage during operations on or adjacent to other electrical systems.
Process: Conduct inhouse training, identify external training as required, support the management of IV authorisations (Earthing Control Person-ECP / Earthing Application Person-EAP), specify IV Drain Earthing Equipment requirements, ensure that IV Drain Earthing Equipment is maintained, tested and regularly inspected,
Resources/Equipment: Voltage monitoring devices, IV Earthing Equipment data analysis software, Processes and Procedures, associated forms and documents.
IV Management Planning:
Procedure: Support the local HSE / Engineering Team with specifications for external IV studies, support Engineering and Project Management with the development and implementation of comprehensive plans for managing impressed voltage including stage by stage drawings to assist project managers, ECP/EAP and site management during the installation and build stages of projects.
Process: Support the Engineering Team (Lead Engineer) with HAZID Reviews with respect to uncontrolled and controlled hazards associated with IV, Identify potential sources of IV, assess risks, and establish mitigation strategies.
Resources/Equipment: IV Processes and Procedures, Planning software, risk assessment tools, mitigation equipment.
Provide Electrical Safety Support:
Procedure: Offer expert advice, support and training on electrical safety issues. adherence to Client Electrical Safety Rules, Lead / Participate in electrical incident investigation (for example – short circuit, arc flash, electric shock, SF6 release, incidents).
Process: Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and provide recommendations for improvement.
Resources/Equipment: Audit tools, risk assessment software, safety training programs.
Drive Innovation and Continuous Improvement:
Procedure: Identify areas for improvement and implement innovative solutions.
Process: Conduct regular reviews, gather feedback, and implement best practices.
Resources/Equipment: Innovation management tools, feedback systems, continuous improvement frameworks.
Engage with Stakeholders:
Procedure: Maintain effective communication with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
Process: Regular meetings, progress reports, and stakeholder feedback sessions.
Resources/Equipment: Communication tools, reporting software, stakeholder management systems.
Develop Emergency Response Plans:
Procedure: Support project management with the development and implementation of emergency response plans for electrical incidents.
Process: Support drills, train staff, and review plans regularly.
Resources/Equipment: Emergency response kits, training materials, simulation tools.
Experience Required:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
Equivalent experience in electrical engineering, along with other qualifications (in HV/LV systems), may be considered in lieu of a formal electrical engineering degree.
· Professional certification in electrical safety or commissioning and general safety qualifications (e.g., IEC, IEEE, HVSPA, NEBOSH).
· Minimum [5] years of experience in electrical engineering, with a focus on HV/LV substation systems.
Proven track record in managing electrical engineering projects from inception to completion.
Extensive experience in planning, coordinating, and overseeing HV/LV commissioning activities.
Strong background in developing and implementing electrical safety protocols and guidelines.
Experience in managing impressed voltage, including training, authorisations, and equipment management.
Experience in maintaining effective communication with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies.
Proven ability to develop and manage budgets for electrical safety and commissioning activities.
Experience in providing technical assistance and troubleshooting for complex HV/LV electrical systems.
In-depth knowledge of HV/LV systems, electrical safety regulations, and impressed voltage management.
Proficiency in using electrical testing and commissioning equipment.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate teams.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
