Job Goal: Provide safe and efficient transportation so that all passengers may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the District’s school program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist the bus driver in maintaining good student conduct on the bus.
Interact with children, parents, teachers and other employees in a safe, proper and helpful manner.
Assist the bus driver in maintaining records of student riders, accidents and safety inspections.
Assist young or disabled students in getting on and off the vehicle.
Assure that students get on and off the bus in an orderly fashion with all of their belongings.
Clean up various body fluid spills including those containing blood and vomit.
Attend transportation employee/bus monitor certification classes and online training as required.
Assist the bus driver to inspect the school bus, notifying proper authorities in case of mechanical failure.
Maintain student discipline in accordance with District/Transportation policies.
Assist the bus driver to report and complete all required documents for driving concerns or passenger safety concerns.
Secure all walk-ons and wheelchair students in a safe manner to include any extra loose equipment.
Assist the bus driver to keep the assigned route or daily assigned vehicle clean, fueled and ready to transport riders at all times.
Perform simple data recording/record keeping operations requiring logging, filing or posting single entry items either manually or by computer.
Read and interpret routine written or printed materials such as basic blueprints, charts, diagrams, maps or instruction materials.
Work with Transportation Safety/Trainer to implement any changes in law, policies, procedures, etc.
Follow generally standardized operating policies and procedures.
Assist the bus driver to conduct and document student emergency evacuations in accordance with all state/District rules.
Assist the bus driver to conduct and document pre-trip inspections of any vehicle driven in accordance with all state/District rules.
Assist in keeping the transportation office spaces, and parking areas clean.
Other duties may be assigned.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Responsible for assisting in the organization, administration and supervision in the areas of the school district transportation system. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Transportation Director.
EQUIPMENT: Ability to use computer and computer related programs and other technologies needed to perform essential job functions. Use standard automotive and bus equipment, and telephone.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Travel to school District buildings and professional meetings as required.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.

Ability to plan budgets and use the mathematical skills required to do so.
Maintain accurate records and support documentation for projects under the supervision of the position.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
QUALIFICATIONS PROFILE: Child Restraint Training and CPR in accordance with all state/District rules.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Experience in School Transportation recommended.
EXPERIENCE: Extensive successful experience working with Special Needs children and their parents.
