About the Role
The Part-time Fire Clinical Counselor serves as a key mental health professional supporting the Mooresville Fire Department (MFD). This position provides a wide range of confidential, evidence-based psychological and behavioral health services designed to promote positive mental health and wellness for fire service personnel.
This role offers an opportunity to make a lasting impact by supporting first responders through proactive wellness initiatives, crisis response, and ongoing counseling support.
Minimum Qualifications
Provide consultation, non-medical support, and confidential individual and group counseling for Fire Department employees.
Collaborate with MFD leadership and partners to implement prevention initiatives that reduce the negative impact of occupational and personal stressors.
Deliver pre-incident education, psychological first aid, and critical incident defusings and debriefings.
Support behavioral and mental health programs by integrating into day-to-day operations to build trust and promote help-seeking behavior.
Ensure the highest levels of confidentiality and ethical conduct in all counseling and information management.
Assist in developing and maintaining internal wellness resources and referral networks.
Conduct research and remain current on therapy techniques, trauma-informed practices, and firefighter behavioral health.
Perform related duties as assigned.
Other Qualifications
Master’s Degree in a Behavioral Science field (Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or related) from an accredited institution.
Five (5) or more years of clinical counseling experience in a mental health-related setting.
Minimum of two (2) years’ clinical counseling experience working with public safety or first responder populations.
Must hold and maintain licensure as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHCS) or equivalent in good standing.
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.
Ability to work independently and manage crisis situations effectively.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
