Position Summary: 

The Psychiatrist works in close collaboration with QHP’s, Medical Director, and Deputy Director of Clinical Services and is responsible for review of all applicable Clinical Assessment and Clinical Reassessment services, performing psychiatric evaluations after medical evaluation when indicated as necessary.  This position only provides evaluations and assessments of functionality and does not provide treatment for psychiatric conditions.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides psychiatric evaluations to referred WeCARE participants during the Clinical Assessment or Clinical Reassessment to determine employability with or without limitations; active mental health issues that require further evaluation and treatment; and inability to work with potential eligibility for Social Security Income (SSI).
  • Provides emergent psychiatric evaluations and recommendations for the safest management options for WeCARE participants that are found to be potentially suicidal, homicidal, or express threats of direct physical harm to themselves or others.
  • Performs psychiatric follow up case reviews using treating clinicians’ progress reports and case management interviews to make recommendations on the ability of WeCARE participants engaged in external mental health treatment to return to work related activities.
  • Uses the SEAMS Electronic Health Record for documentation of Phase II psychiatric consultations and follow-up case reviews in a complete and timely manner.
  • Works with the QHP’s and Medical Director to ensure all participants requiring psychiatric assessments are performed each day and cases are finalized expeditiously.
  • Works with QHP’s to ensure commitment to and compliance with clinical protocols, performance objectives, productivity benchmarks, compliance measures, provider workflow planning, and optimal provider scheduling.
  • Works with the QHP’s to execute best practices; adopt information technology updates; incorporate predictive analytics into your patient care flow redesign decisions; and respond to operations issues when they are prioritized with urgency.

Education and Experience:

  • New York State licensed doctor (MD) with training in internal medicine, family practice, physical medicine and rehabilitation, or in other medical disciplines as designated by HRA who reviews the Clinical Assessments/Clinical. Reassessments immediately following their completion when indicated
  • Direct care experience is required.
  • Prefer a minimum of two years’ consultative psychiatry experience within ambulatory care, urgent care, or emergency room setting, preferably in medically needy and underserved communities.

  • Ability to analyze, interpret and make various deductions from varying facts or circumstances.
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in environments of frequent change and diverse objectives.
  • Excellent presentation and writing skills required, including ability to make oral presentations.
