Description
To be a successful Sterile Processing Technician, you should be meticulous with strong attention to detail. You should have a good working knowledge of a variety of sterilization techniques and be able to work with fragile instruments. You should be familiar with A.A.M.I. Guidelines, and able to comply with ACHC regulations.
Essential Functions include but are not limited to:
- Collecting used and contaminated equipment and instruments for sorting and decontamination.
- Manually cleaning instruments of contaminants, removing waste matter, and operating and troubleshooting decontamination equipment.
- Monitoring and operating sterilization equipment.
- Examining instruments meticulously to ensure they are properly cleaned and sanitized.
- Testing for integrity via biologicals, chemical indicators, and minimum heat exposure.
- Sterilizing, preparing, wrapping, and organizing equipment into instrument trays for use during medical procedures.
- Maintaining records of sterilization procedures, sterilized items, equipment maintenance, and supplies.
- Controlling the inventory, reordering supplies, and checking expiration dates.
- Safe use of chemicals used to decontaminate and sterilize surgical instruments following OSHA Guidelines.
- Attendance: works as scheduled and is compliant with Attendance and Tardiness Policy
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Certification in Sterile Processing and Distribution preferred.
