Assistant Swim Coach

Department: 509651 (Swim Team) Location: Lenexa, KS

The City of Lenexa is currently accepting applications for Assistant Swim Coaches for the Lenexa Lazers team within the Parks and Recreation Department. This position offers an opportunity to gain valuable coaching, teamwork, and leadership skills while serving the community primarily at Sar-Ko-Par Aquatic Center (8801 Greenway Lane).

Schedule: The Lazer Swim and Dive Season runs from mid-May through mid-July.

  • Monday�Friday: Morning practices
  • Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings: Swim meets

Position Summary:

The Assistant Swim Coach supports the Head Coach in conducting practices and meets, teaching stroke techniques, analyzing performance, and instructing participants of various skill levels. This role involves creating a positive and inclusive team environment, assisting with meet preparation, monitoring participant safety, and maintaining a high level of professionalism and customer service. The Assistant Swim Coach also helps ensure compliance with safety and sanitary regulations, maintains pool and equipment cleanliness, and completes required reports and attendance logs accurately and on time.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Previous competitive swim and swim lesson instruction experience.
  • CPR/AED certification from a nationally recognized agency, or ability to complete CPR course through the City of Lenexa.

Starting Rate of Pay is $16.50 per hour with annual raises.

Environmental and Physical Factors: Work is performed in and around aquatic facilities with frequent exposure to sun, wind, heat, humidity, weather conditions, and noise typical of a pool environment. Duties require standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods, reaching with hands and arms, and occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and have good manual dexterity, body flexibility, multi-limb coordination, and visual acuity.

Offers of employment are contingent upon successfully passing a drug screen. A background check is required for applicants aged 18 and older.
