Purpose of Position
The Color Guard Coach is responsible for fulfilling the mission of Des Moines Christian School by equipping the minds and nurturing the hearts of students through their physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual development. The coach leads all aspects of the program and works in close partnership with the band director and staff to ensure the color guard is fully integrated into the marching band’s visual presentation.

Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Color Guard or related coaching experience preferred.
Professing believer in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and committed to growing in relationship with Him.
In agreement with the Des Moines Christian School Statement of Faith.
In agreement with the Des Moines Christian School Biblical Convictions for Christian Education.
Regularly attends and is actively involved in a church that affirms historic Christian orthodoxy (doctrine, faith, teaching, practice), consistent with the DMC Statement of Faith, through that church’s public creed, confession, core beliefs, or statement of faith.

Characterized with integrity and maintains confidentiality
Utilizes critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Attends coaching clinics that would be beneficial to the activity.
Maintains effective communication with participants, parents, and administration.
Upholds to school policies regarding student eligibility and/or code of conduct violations.
Responsibilities:
Demonstrates leadership in all phases of the color guard program in collaboration with the band director and other staff members to integrate the color guard into the marching band's overall visual presentation.
Develops trusting, productive relationships with students to create a safe, positive, and productive team culture.
Attends all rehearsals, performances, and summer band camp.
Develops and teaches routines for the color guard, including flag, other equipment manipulation, dance movement, and formations.
Coaches and trains students in the proper techniques and skills necessary for successful performance.
Guides the color guard in rehearsals, ensuring they are ready for competitions and performances.
Communicates effectively with participants, parents, administration, and the community.
Ensures participants are supervised properly during and after practices, performances, and competitions.
Collaborates with the Head of Activities (HA) for program purchases and equipment needs.
Coordinates with HA and facilities team in the proper care and management of facilities and equipment.
Adheres to the policies and practices outlined in the DMC Coaches Handbook.
All other duties as assigned by the HA.
