8POSITION PURPOSE:
Responsible for performing bone densitometry exams to include the scanning of such anatomical areas for the assessment of osteoporosis and monitoring of fracture risk.
Responsible for performing mammography including biopsy procedures, managing the mammography reporting system and documenting the MQSA requirements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Performs bone densitometry and mammography using accepted principles and practices.
Operates mammography and DEXA equipment, selecting appropriate exposure factors, and producing high-quality images of breast tissue and bone density.
Accurately assesses examination quality, appropriateness and results.
Educates patients by explaining procedures and participating in public education events.
Identifies technique, safety, and limitations of DEXA scanning and Mammography.
Manages mammography reporting system including data entry and letter distribution.
Adhering to radiation safety protocols and using protective measures to minimize radiation exposure for both patients and staff.
Prioritizes work assignments for self and others.
Completes record entries into computerized system.
Assists in the maintenance of images and other records.
Recognizes and responds to emergency situations appropriately.
Participating in quality control procedures, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
Practices competencies in mammography and Dexa based upon current regulatory standards.
Perform other related duties, incidental to the work described herein, as directed by the director.
SPECIALIZED KNOW-HOW & REQUIRMENTS:
ARRT registered in Radiology required.
Current Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) required.
ARRT registered in Mammography within 6 months of hire and DEXA Certification required within 1 year of hire.
One year experience in radiology preferred.
Advanced knowledge of radiation protection, physics, positioning, quality control, Image critique and MQSA standards strongly preferred.
Extensive computer literacy to include DR, PACS and EMR strongly preferred.
Demonstrates the knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to any age-related needs of the patients served on assigned unit.
Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the patient population served.
Able to assess and interpret data about the patient’s status in order to identify each patient’s needs and provide the appropriate care, including age-related care, needed by the adolescent and/or geriatric patient group.
Compensation Range
