Position Summary: This position is responsible for ensuring that appropriate systems are developed, implemented and maintained to identify, measure, monitor and control risks, in accordance with applicable regulatory guidelines (e.g. FRB, FDIC and State). This position is primarily responsible for ensuring that appropriate risk management strategies are employed to avoid, control, retain or transfer identified risk exposures.
Essential Functions
- Implement a process to identify potential key risks to the Bank and help ensure existing and potential material risks that could impact the achievement of strategic objectives are identified, managed or appropriately mitigated
- Coordinate the development and monitoring of the Bank’s risk tolerance (risk appetite) aligned to the business strategy
- Develop and implement appropriate and transparent corporate governance, policies and procedures, and the techniques to manage risk
- Develop a dynamic risk monitoring process that provides a current risk perspective of the Bank’s business, products and services
- On an ongoing basis, provide effective monitoring, communication and reporting on the status of key risks to the Board and appropriate management and Board committees
- Prepare an annual comprehensive assessment of risk that will, at a minimum, meet the requirements of the FDIC Improvement Act.
- Ensure that risk of new products and services, or significant changes in existing products and services, are adequately evaluated before they are offered/implemented.
- Serve as Chair of the Risk Management Committee.
- Ensure that operations are in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Identify areas of operational risk, including exposures to losses from internal and external crime, such as fraud and robbery, and determining the appropriate risk management strategy to apply to control or mitigate those exposures related to identified risks.
- Prepare an annual assessment of physical security risks and ensure that adequate physical security procedures and security systems are implemented to mitigate identified loss exposures.
- Investigate internal and external crimes committed against the institution, report “apparent” crimes to the appropriate agencies, coordinate investigations with local or federal police authorities and coordinate efforts to recover losses either directly from the parties involved in the loss or insurers.

- Maintain compliance with and adhere to all state and federal regulations and Bank policies and procedures, including, but not limited to Bank Secrecy Act, SAR, CTR, FACT ACT, Community Reinvestment Act, EEO, and fair employment practices.

Minimum Educational & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Management, Accounting or Finance preferred
- Prior experience with a regulatory agency, such as the OCC or Federal Reserve, or in Bank Internal Auditing, Loan Review Accounting and related insurance fields preferred
- Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
- Direct compliance management, regulatory, or senior internal audit role
Physical Demands
In terms of an 8-hour workday, “occasional” equals 1% to 33%, “frequent” equals 34% to 66% and “continuous” equals 67% to 100%.
