This role blends RF engineering expertise with customer-facing collaboration, helping bridge the gap between Gridware products and real-world deployment conditions.
Responsibilities
Assess potential installation sites for wireless connectivity and environmental suitability.
Perform RF surveys (cellular, mesh, satellite, or hybrid networks) to determine signal strength, link quality, and optimal device placement.
Serve as the customer-facing technical expert for all connectivity-related questions during pre-deployment and installation planning.
Collaborate with field, hardware, and customer-facing teams to develop optimized connectivity protocol to maximize device health and minimize data latency
Troubleshoot field connectivity issues and provide rapid feedback loops to engineering and operations teams.
Document site survey results, including RF maps, coverage recommendations, and installation readiness reports.
Provide training and guidance to field technicians and customer stakeholders on connectivity best practices.
Continuously improve field processes, tools, and metrics for assessing and optimizing connectivity at scale.
Required Skills
5+ years of experience in RF, wireless, or field network engineering.
Strong working knowledge of cellular (LTE, 5G), Lora, sub-GHz mesh (802.15.4, Zigbee, Thread), or satellite (NTN, Iridium, etc.) communication systems.
Experience with RF site surveys using tools such as spectrum analyzers, field test kits, or network planning software.
Experience with MATLAB, Python and/or C/C++ for algorithm development, modeling, and simulation.
Demonstrated ability to translate technical findings into clear recommendations for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Comfortable in customer-facing environments, managing expectations and explaining technical trade-offs.
Strong analytical skills with attention to real-world deployment constraints (terrain, interference, power, etc.).
Willingness to travel frequently to field sites (up to ~25%).
Bonus Skills
Experience supporting IoT or distributed sensor networks in diverse environments (i.e. topography, vegetation).
Familiarity with link budget analysis, propagation modeling, and antenna selection.
Prior experience integrating cellular or mesh connectivity into large-scale sensor or monitoring systems.
Knowledge of GIS tools or spatial mapping for RF visualization.
Background working with utility, energy, or infrastructure customers.
