Job Description: Registered Nurse
Location: Blue Mountain Hospital
Reports To: Director of Nursing
Position Type: Full-Time
Note: At Blue Mountain Hospital, we are committed to providing the highest standard of care to all our patients. To uphold this commitment, we are
implementing a comprehensive training program for our nurses in Obstetrics, Medical Surgical and Emergency Room processes and procedures.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques
Prepares equipment and aids Physician during treatment and examination of patient
Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of patient
Observes patient, records significant conditions and reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents
Takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal and assess condition of patient
Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocol
Documents nursing history and physical assessment for assigned patients
Initiates a patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by Physician including patient and family instruction
Rotates among various departments within Blue Mountain Hospital
Prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures
Assists in procedure by handing items to medical practitioner
Participates in department or unit quality improvement activities
Train employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; assist in addressing complaints and suggestion resolution to problems
Interviews patient to determine medical problems/conditions and documents in chart for physician
Obtains and records vital signs and weight
Assists physician with patient examination as needed
Reviews physician orders, lab requests
Documents services performed for billing purposes
Dresses wounds, gives enemas, douches, alcohol rubs, and massages
Applies compresses, ice bags, and hot water bottles
Observes patients and reports adverse reactions to medication or treatment medical personnel in charge
Administers specified medication, orally or by subcutaneous or intramuscular injection, and notes time and amount in patient chart
Assembles and uses with proper training, equipment such as catheters, oxygen suppliers, etc.
Collects samples, such as urine, blood, and sputum, from patients
Sterilizes equipment and supplies
Maintains supplies, including stocking and ordering new supplies and disposing of expired or damaged supplies. Inventory, making sure all medication/injectables and products are up to date and place order with Director of Nursing, Chief Nursing Officer, or Pharmacist
Comply with the Blue Mountain Hospital Policies and Procedures regarding Confidentiality, with the Privacy Act, with Health Insurance Portability Act
Follow all personnel policies and procedures of Blue Mountain Hospital and support administrative team in providing quality healthcare in a financially viable process
Maintain patient and business confidentiality at all times
Maintain Basic Life Support certification at all times
Any other tasks, projects, or duties that are requested by the Employee’s supervisor or other Blue Mountain Hospital management or administration that is at all reasonably related to Blue Mountain Hospital and/or Employee’s employment with Blue Mountain Hospital.
Qualifications and Skills:
Registered Nurse Licensure in the State of Utah
Ability to pass clinical competencies
Extensive knowledge regarding medical diseases, conditions, and treatment methodologies
Ability to learn and teach other people about medical conditions and diseases
CPR certification
Fluently read, write and speak the English language
Ability to reason and creatively problem solve
Ability to interact with co-workers, managers, administration, and medical staff in a professional and courteous manner.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to: Sit, Stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, reach above shoulder level, kneel, balance, push, pull carry items weighing up to 75 lbs., lift items/patients up to 100 lbs and over with assistance. Use of feet for repetitive movements. Use of hands for simple grasping, firm grasping, and fine manipulation.
Position also requires exposure to: Cleaning chemicals, contagious organisms, bloodborne pathogens, and bio-hazardous waste.
Scheduling:
Staff may have to work at least one shift a month in the opposite hired scheduled shift depending on staffing needs.
Hours of work full time: 3 regular shifts with up to one on-call shift per week
Part time jobs agree to work 1-2 shifts per week or at least be willing to give 1-2 shifts a week as a possibility to work (shifts will be given to full time employees first)
PRN employees are required to provide at least 2-3 shifts per month that they are able to work. (shifts will be given to full time employees first)
All full-time, PRN, and part-time employees are required to have 80% nurses meeting attendance and maintain relias at 100% every fiscal year.
General Requirements
In addition to the specific duties listed above, the Employee is required to do the following:
Any tasks, projects, or actions that are reasonably within the scope of the Employee’s position or employment, which the Employee’s supervisor, any member of BMH’s management, or BMH’s administration team—asks of the Employee. Tasks, projects, or actions are “reasonably within the scope” of the Employee’s employment or position unless the same are so far removed therefrom that no legitimate argument can be made that such tasks, projects, or actions are in any way related to BMH or the Employee’s employment or position within BMH.
Act as professionally as should normally be required in a medical organization. This shall include giving all appropriate respect and deference to licensed medical providers and behavioral health providers (hereafter jointly referred to as “Providers”). Providers include, but may not be limited to physician assistants, nurse practitioners (or similar), and Physician Assistants.
Keep all BMH business and patient information strictly confidential and to adhere to all other BMH confidentiality policies and procedures, as well as all laws affecting confidentiality.
Refrain—whatsoever—from intentionally, purposely, knowingly, or negligently engaging in any conduct, actions, or speech that may cause concern, apprehension, confusion, or annoyance on the part of any BMH patient toward BMH as an organization or any BMH employee.
Work congenially and cooperatively at all times with all other BMH employees. This includes maintaining a pleasant demeanor and attitude and executing position duties and administration’s/management’s other requests in a timely manner, diligently, and with a positive attitude. This requirement further includes refraining from personally degrading any other person or BMH employee. As part of this requirement, the Employee must refrain from engaging in gossip about any BMH employees and/or patients.
Communicate complaints about BMH, its policies, procedures, managers, administrators, and/or other employees—only to and through the appropriate BMH channels, which are limited to BMH’s management chain of command. No complaints, judgments, or degrading comments about BMH, its policies, procedures, managers, administrators, and/or other employees—should be shared with anyone other than the appropriate persons within BMH’s management chain of command who have the ability to work to remedy any related problems. Unless the Employee’s direct supervisor is part of the problem or complaint—problems and complaints should first be voiced to the Employee’s direct supervisor and upward therefrom through BMH’s internal management chain of command as appropriate and necessary. It is an absolute dereliction of this duty by the Employee if the Employee ever—directly or indirectly (in conjunction or planning with others)—makes complaints or problems publicly known to anyone other than BMH’s management team or administrative team (neither include BMH Board Members).
If applicable (having access to), check the Employee’s BMH email no less frequently than once daily.
Absolutely refrain from communicating or releasing any “Private BMH Information” to the media and/or non-BMH persons or entities—without formal
approval to do the same by BMH’s CEO. “Private BMH Information”, for purposes of this requirement, includes: (1) all information that requires confidentiality pursuant to any BMH policies or procedures; (2) all information that is protected by HIPAA or other applicable laws; (3) all information relating to BMH’s internal business workings, strategies, or plans; and (4) all information relating to any BMH employee or contractor. This requirement remains applicable and shall stand regardless of whether the information being requested is of a private or public nature—if the information sought fits any of the above listed types. Finally, this requirement remains applicable at all times, including when the Employee is off duty or away from BMH’s premises.
