Position Description
Diagnoses and treats diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth, gums, and related oral structures of inmate patients and employees injured as a result of TDCJ-ID activities. Insures that appropriate dental care is accessible and provided to the inmate population in a timely fashion. Renders dental judgment regarding care provided to inmates assigned to the unit. Works under general direction of the Regional Dental Director, with wide latitude to exercise initiative and independent judgment. Directly supervises 2-4 dental auxiliary in the unit dental services. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Major/Essential Functions
Lead and Inspire a Skilled Dental Team
Directly supervise a cohesive team that includes two to three dental assistants, a dental clerk, and a hygienist. Foster a collaborative, high-performing environment focused on patient care and professional development.
Drive Operational Excellence
Oversee day-to-day clinic operations to ensure efficiency, patient satisfaction, and optimal use of resources. Strategically plan and assign workloads to maximize team performance and clinic productivity.
Mentor and Develop Talent
Take an active role in interviewing, mentoring, and training team members. Support ongoing professional growth through coaching, feedback, and performance support.
Supportive Leadership
Promote a positive, solution-focused work culture. Handle concerns professionally and proactively to maintain team morale and service quality.
Make an Impact with Purpose
Deliver essential dental care in a correctional facility setting, contributing to the health, dignity, and rehabilitation of underserved populations.

Required Qualifications
Current license to practice dentistry by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners required. Current Drug Enforcement Agency controlled substances registration certificate required.
