The City of Jacksonville is looking for dependable and responsible individuals interested in the safe passage of our children within the community. The School Crossing Guard performs responsible protective services work regulating vehicle and foot traffic in conjunction with the moving of children to and from school; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of a Police Sergeant or Lieutenant.
Position Duties
Directing traffic around schools; assisting children crossing traffic to and from school.

- Regulates vehicular traffic at designated crossing to allow children to cross safely.
- Regulates children using the crossing to assure that they conform to traffic regulations.
- Assists bus drivers, parents, vehicle operators, police and school staff to ensure a safe and orderly school ingress and egress process.
- Attends meetings, gives statements, provides reports, testifies in court as necessary.
- Takes appropriate action with children who fail to cooperate and reports such action as required.
- Performs related tasks as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
Other Qualifications
General knowledge of traffic regulations; ability and willingness to work in inclement weather throughout the year; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to deal courteously and firmly with children, vehicle operators, school personnel and citizens.
