Duties
Assemble patient records both electronic and paper, according to regulations/guidance to prescribed formats, insert additional forms and charts as necessary, and stamp them with correct patient identifications.,File results of treatment in medical records, review patients' charts and record a variety of medical data.,Validate patients' eligibility for treatment by conducting required DEERS verification, inquire/document in electronic health record status of third-party insurance.,Receives and relays electronic incoming and outgoing telephone, intercom, messages through an Electronic Health Record.,Perform support work in connection with the care and treatment given to patients in wards, clinics or other such units.,Maintains and monitors patient appointment schedules for the clinic/practice.,Schedules appropriate patient appointments manually and/or in the electronic health record.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes such as serving as a receptionist, performing record keeping duties, and providing miscellaneous support to the department; Experience with functions of a variety of types of office automation software, e.g., database, spreadsheet, and word processing and/or medical office automation systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. This position requires a typing proficiency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5 minute sample with 3 or fewer errors. Time in Grade Requirement: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non temporary competitive appointment.
