Jefferson Community Health &  Life is looking for a Facilities Supervisor to lead the maintenance department.

Hours: Full-time.  Mainly M-F 40 hours per week between 7am - 5pm.  Must be available to take call on a rotating basis (nights, weekends and holidays).

POSITION SUMMARY: Coordinates and directs all aspects of maintenance operations for Jefferson Community Health & Life, including the hospital, long-term care, assisted living, and clinic facilities. Ensures proper maintenance and repair of equipment, machinery, buildings, and grounds in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Maintains compliance with the Life Safety Code (NFPA 101) and related safety standards to promote a safe, effective, and regulatory-compliant environment for patients, residents, staff, and visitors.

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Maintenance Workers

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One-year certificate from a college or technical school, or three to six months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of facility operations, building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical), and construction practices required.
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of the Life Safety Code, CMS, CAH, and Nebraska DHHS regulatory standards preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Computer skills required.

Facility Operations & Project Management

  • Plans, budgets, and schedules facility modifications, renovations, and construction projects.
  • Coordinates with architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure compliance with Life Safety Code, infection control, and safety standards.
  • Assists departments in reviewing space needs, design plans, and equipment installation.

Preventive Maintenance Program

  • Oversees facility-wide preventive maintenance schedules for all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life safety systems.
  • Ensure work orders are generated, assigned, and completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Monitors maintenance records to ensure compliance with regulatory and documentation standards.

Life Safety Code & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensures compliance with the Life Safety Code (NFPA 101) and other applicable codes (NFPA 99, OSHA, CMS, DHHS, CAH, etc.).
  • Coordinates routine inspections, drills, and testing of fire alarms, sprinkler systems, emergency power, and other life safety equipment.
  • Maintains documentation of all inspections, tests, and maintenance activities for survey readiness.
  • Works with the Safety Committee and Infection Prevention team to support Environment of Care and Emergency Preparedness programs.

Departmental Supervision & Leadership

  • Directs, assigns, and monitors the work of maintenance staff to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Serves as a resource and mentor to team members, providing technical guidance and training as needed.
  • Ensures adequate staffing for all shifts and responds to after-hours emergencies when required.

Budget & Financial Management

  • Develops and monitors departmental operating and capital budgets.
  • Reviews expenditures and works with vendors to obtain best pricing and cost-effective services.
  • Maintains accurate payroll and timekeeping records for department employees.

Employee Relations & Development

  • Promotes a positive, respectful, and safe work environment.
  • Conducts regular staff meetings and performance reviews.
  • Addresses employee concerns in a timely and consistent manner, consulting with Faciities Director, and/or Human Resources and/or Administration as appropriate.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure department operations meet all JCH&L policies and regulatory requirements, including those related to Service Excellence, Compliance, Safety, and Infection Control.
  • Participates in surveys, audits, and inspections. Implements corrective actions as needed.

Professional Growth

  • Attends department and organization-wide meetings, educational programs, and workshops to maintain and enhance skills.
  • Keeps current with changes in technology, codes, and regulatory standards impacting maintenance and life safety operations.

Other Duties

  • Assists in snow removal, emergency response, and disaster preparedness as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Facilities Director.
