Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for operations of the unit to ensure the delivery of quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and mandates of all funding agencies.
  • Responsible for supporting the effective fiscal management of the unit and to ensure the proper utilization of organizational resources.
  • Responsible for patient records, facility log, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services reports and other reports as required.  
  • Screen and review incoming medical information/records to determine appropriateness for admission to unit. 
  • Orient and supervise nursing staff – RNs and/or LPNs. 
  • Provide explanation of basic care, test procedures, and care philosophy to the clients and family when necessary.
  • Collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary professional staff.
  • Enforces adherence to the state board of nursing and state nurse practice requirements
  • Maintains nursing staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training nurses and auxiliary staff.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by designing health procedures and protocols.
  • Oversees preparation and maintenance of client's clinical records.
  • Oversees the ordering of drugs, solutions, and equipment, and maintains records on narcotics.
  • Oversees the destruction of outdated/discarded medications

Job Requirements:

  • Current State of Connecticut - Department of Public Health Registered Nurse License (RN)
  • CPR certification.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Experience in behavioral health / substance abuse field preferred.
