The Facilities Technician (HVAC) is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems within the facility. This role ensures optimal performance of climate control systems to maintain safe, comfortable, and efficient working environments. The technician will also support general facilities maintenance activities as needed, including preventive maintenance tasks, equipment inspections, and coordination with external vendors.This position requires a strong understanding of HVAC systems, diagnostic tools, and applicable safety standards. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to operational excellence in facilities management.
Job Description
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required
Technical school certification or associate degree in HVAC or related field preferred
3–5 years of HVAC experience in commercial, industrial, or institutional settings
Valid EPA Section 608 Certification (Type II or Universal)
Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Technical Skills & Experience
Strong HVAC repair and mechanical troubleshooting skills
Experience with HVAC systems: RTUs, chillers, boilers, VAVs, air handlers
Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Energy Management Systems
Knowledge of HVAC codes, standards, and safety regulations
Basic understanding of plumbing, electrical, and general building maintenance
Key Competencies
Technical Proficiency: Deep knowledge of HVAC systems and diagnostics
Problem Solving: Able to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues
Preventive Maintenance: Skilled in routine and scheduled maintenance
Safety Awareness: Understanding of OSHA, PPE, and lockout/tagout procedures
Building Systems Knowledge: Experience with BAS, EMS, and CMMS
Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills
Time Management: Able to manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision
Teamwork: Works well independently and in team settings
Adaptability: Responds to emergencies and shifting priorities
Basic Computer Skills: Comfortable using mobile devices, email, and maintenance software
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Troubleshoot and repair building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and equipment
Clean, lubricate, and service pumps, valves, and mechanical/electrical devices
Install and modify building equipment and systems
Perform general building repairs (e.g., ceiling tiles, doors, painting)
Recommend upgrades to maintenance operations
Use and maintain tools and equipment for facility and grounds maintenance
Inspect buildings and equipment for safety and maintenance needs
Operate and maintain fire and life safety systems
Perform carpentry and snow removal as needed
Respond to emergency situations and service requests
Use technology (smartphones, tablets, BAS, etc.) for daily tasks
Follow all codes, regulations, and company safety practices
Complete required safety training
Follow uniform and appearance standards
May work alone during certain shifts or extended hours for emergencies
Work Environment
Mix of office, industrial, and outdoor environments
Use of both maintenance tools and standard office equipment
May require shift work, overtime, or on-call availability
Physical Demands
Work at heights using ladders and lifts
Perform outdoor work year-round
Communicate clearly and operate computers and tools
Move around frequently; minimal stationary time
Lift up to 50 lbs
Use hands and arms in various directions

The compensation that will be offered to the successful candidate will depend on factors such as whether the position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement, the geographic area in which the work will be performed, market pay rates in that area, and the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
The company will not pay less than minimum wage for this role.
The compensation for the position is: $32.30 - $38.00
