About the Role:

The Adolescent Counselor plays a vital role in supporting individuals, particularly children and adolescents, who are facing challenges related to addiction and mental health. This position focuses on providing compassionate, evidence-based therapeutic interventions to promote addiction recovery and emotional well-being. The Counselor will work closely with clients to develop personalized treatment plans that address their unique needs and circumstances. By fostering a safe and trusting environment, the Counselor helps clients build resilience, develop coping strategies, and achieve sustainable recovery outcomes. Ultimately, this role contributes to improving the overall quality of life for clients and their families within the health care services setting.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Valid state licensure as a professional counselor (LPC), Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT), or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience working with addiction treatment and recovery, particularly with children and adolescents.
  • Strong knowledge of adolescent therapy techniques and developmental psychology.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Specialized training or certification in addiction counseling or adolescent therapy.
  • Experience working within a health care services environment or clinical setting.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care and evidence-based therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or Motivational Interviewing.
  • Bilingual abilities or experience working with diverse cultural populations.
  • Experience in program development or community outreach related to addiction recovery.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify addiction issues and mental health needs in children and adolescents.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans focused on addiction recovery and emotional support.
  • Provide individual and group therapy sessions using evidence-based approaches tailored to adolescents and children.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including medical professionals, social workers, and family members, to ensure holistic care.
  • Monitor client progress and adjust treatment strategies as necessary to optimize recovery outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of client sessions, treatment plans, and progress notes.
  • Offer crisis intervention and support during critical moments to ensure client safety and stability.
  • Educate clients and families about addiction, recovery processes, and healthy coping mechanisms.

The required skills in addiction treatment and recovery are essential for assessing client needs and delivering targeted therapeutic interventions that promote healing and long-term sobriety. Expertise in adolescent therapy and working with children enables the Counselor to tailor approaches that resonate with younger clients and address their developmental challenges. Effective communication and empathy are critical daily as the Counselor builds trust and rapport with clients and their families. Collaboration skills are used to coordinate care with other health professionals, ensuring a comprehensive support system.
