SUMMARY: The Animal Welfare Auditor will be responsible for auditing livestock haulers that deliver to Seaboard Triumph Foods. Trailers will be inspected for compliance with Transport Quality Assurance (TQA) guidelines, checking BOL paperwork and ensuring accurate records are kept. The animal welfare auditor will also support the livestock receiving teams by assisting livestock haulers requiring help, assisting with euthanasia, and other tasks as assigned. The work environment for this role will be in and out of livestock building(s) and into the elements of the Midwest weather and duties will include activities associated with swine behaviors and activities of unloading, movement, feeding, storage and associated recordkeeping activities as well as visual assessment for any swine health related concerns. The successful candidate for this position must be able to document information and write short reports when failures occur.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Activities related to Auditing a livestock truck at Receiving:
- Checking in a Trailer:
- Visually inspect and ensure compliance with TQA guidelines for weather, bedding, density, and trailer condition. This is not an all-inclusive list.
- Ensure paperwork associated with each load in complete and verify driver has current TQA certification
- Assign dock to each hauler and ensure trucks can be unloaded within 60 minutes of arrival
- Assess animal condition at time of arrival
- Build and assign tattoo hammers to designated unloading location and transporter
- Follow all safety requirements for working around moving livestock trucks
- Assisting with Unload:
- Identification and humane handling of non-ambulatory or fatigued hogs
- Euthanasia of animals with injury, moribund, or animals that will not recover
- Assist with alternate tools to aid in removal of stubborn hogs from trailer
- Monitor and remove livestock haulers from the trailer if they fail to handle animals humanely, document issues and statements to ensure driver related incidents can be communicated back to Procurement and the producer.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the work environment, knowledge, skill, and/or ability required or preferred.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Understand Transport Quality Assurance Guidelines and STF humane handling procedures. Demonstrate the ability to stay focused on tasks as they are detail oriented.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to write routine reports and business correspondence. Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus. Ability to effectively manage time and meet all specified deadlines.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents in the English language and procedure manuals. Must be able to effectively communicate with individual employees as well as groups.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and analyze steps within processes. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Work well individually and as a team.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Computer skills required with the ability to learn and effectively use any and all other computer programs that are or will be made available. (ie. I-Pad)
NORMAL WORK SCHEDULE: The hours and days of work are established as needed by operations and at the discretion of management.
