Location: This position is onsite at Ray Compressor located in Armada, Michigan.  The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate.

 

GENERAL SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Senior Dispatcher is responsible for leading various dispatching and administrative tasks related to receiving and transmitting information pertaining to field work schedules. They will assign emergent and non-emergent work, complete all supporting actions, and review and assist Associate and Trainee Dispatchers in the completion of their supporting work. They are also responsible for the coordination of complex communications and information, operating a variety of communication equipment including two-way radios, pagers, cell phones, and personal computers to receive, prioritize, schedule, and dispatch emergency and non-emergency calls for service. This includes coordinating internal and external agencies, vendors, and equipment for field crews. The Senior Dispatcher supports field leadership by assessing and recommending field resource adjustments, overtime needs, and communicating with internal and external customers. They will also provide one-on-one support, mentoring, and coaching to Trainee Dispatchers as directed by the Supervisor/Manager.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Participate in storm restoration activities and shift coverage
• Provide initial and high-level continuous support to system supervisors and field crews during outage events, including outage analysis using detailed trouble analysis of circuit design, computer information systems, and other operating activities, as well as protective tagging analysis under the direction of the system supervisor
• Analyze, document, and record complex operating actions and update operational systems to maintain an accurate record of the status of the distribution system; perform system modeling under system supervisor direction
• Communicate with Field Supervision regarding field resources versus workload; evaluate the need for ARCOS callouts based on workload and recommend adjustments
• Assign non-emergent and routine orders as required; prioritize events and coordinate relevant field resources for all emergent work
• Submit Miss Dig requests for emergent work and complete status checks as needed
• Lead the creation of orders in Systems Application and Products (SAP) as requested by field resources to ensure customer needs are met; maintain job-critical information and perform database entry
• Coordinate communications and information with field crews, mobile units, and other personnel and departments; monitor system alarms, conduct complex analysis, and enter job data to assist crews with status updates as required
• Assign emergent work and direct field personnel; conduct necessary complex activities that support the completion of emergent work; validate Trainee and Associate Dispatcher activities to ensure completion and accuracy
• Other duties as assigned or as may be necessary

 

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
• Ability to problem-solve, use critical thinking, and resolve conflicts
• Ability to read and interpret complex prints
• Ability to interact with internal and external clients and understand their functions
• Knowledge and/or experience in departmental practices and procedures
• Advanced understanding of Union Contract
• Ability to train others
• Ability to manage a console independently
• Ability to independently write, approve, and execute distribution switching and tagging orders

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
• Associate’s degree in a scientific, technical, or business field with four (4) or more years of relevant experience
o (OR) High School Diploma/GED with six (6) or more years of relevant experience

 

CERTIFICATIONS
• Consumers Energy Dispatcher Switching and Tagging Certification

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• This role is regulated under the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA). This regulation covers functions in pipeline operations, pipeline maintenance, or pipeline emergency response. Employees in this role will be subject to random drug testing in accordance with the regulations set forth by PHMSA.
