The locksmith will manage the day-to-day operations for housing facilities. This role ensures the security and functionality of the key and lock systems on campus. Occasional after-hours response may be required.
Responsibilities
Manages key system operations: Performs audits to ensure the procedures are followed and systems are secure: Systematically inventory supplies such as cores and keys in circulation, key blanks and other necessary supplies to service the department: Keeps accurate records so keys, cores or inventory items can be identified and located.
Software and programs needed to keep information organized and accurate: KeyTrak, StarRez, Best Key Software, and Microsoft Excel.
Performs work orders and provides preventative maintenance for the key system: Inspects doors, locks and door hardware throughout housing to ensure they are operating correctly: Completes orders for locksmith work (i.e. core changes, door replacement, adjustments and etc.)
Performs code cutting from depth and spacing records using code machine: Duplicates keys on key cutting machine: Performs advanced lock bypass methods, picking skills, and alternate entry into doors: Mortises doors for commercial mortise hardware: Installs, services, and programs electronic stand along combination locks.
Coordinates required outside vendor work with designated contractors: Provides budgets/estimates and receives approval before releasing contractors to perform work. Purchases tools, supplies and equipment related to the locksmith operation: Provides budgets and advises on the long-term needs for the department: Organizes and cleans the key shop and contents: As needed, the locksmith responds to after-hour emergencies.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of locksmith practices and key manufacturer locking systems.
- Ability to perform repairs and physical work using tools related to locksmithing.
- Knowledge of computer maintenance management software.
- Ability to read and interpret instructions.
- Skilled in clear communication and customer-service delivery.
- Skilled in managing logistics effectively in high stressed environments.
- Ability to inspire and motivate staff.

Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2 years experience in managing response orientated operations.
Preferred:
- Associates degree
- 3-5 years of experience as a manager. This can be a business, a division, a department, or specific role.
