Duties and Responsibilities
- *Works under the direction of the Department Chair to coordinate and perform a variety of tasks that facilitate the day-to-day operations of the Department of Molecular Biosciences and Bioengineering (MBBE) in a wide range of program and department matters to ensure smooth operations of the department.
- *Works with the Fiscal Support Specialist in all matters of the MBBE Office as necessary.
- *Assists the Department Chair with the management and budget of MBBE departmental funds.
- *Acts as the main point of contact for all department and program inquiries.
- *Assists and ensures the appropriateness and correctness of travel documents and processes for payment.
- Holds a department P-card to assist in departmental purchases.
- *Assists the graduate chair and departmental undergraduate advisors in the maintenance of student records and program data, including graduate program applications and admissions, and databases concerning the department's undergraduate and graduate programs for enrollments, student performance, student progress, further study or employment after graduation, etc., and including the use of Banner and STAR.
- *Assists the graduate chair in the maintenance of graduate faculty requests and records.
- *Provides support with student registration override services with Banner and STAR.
- *Assists the MBBE Department Chair with course scheduling and textbook order.
- *Maintains and assists with documentation on MBBE program policies and procedures.
- *Provides assistance in the design and maintenance of the departmental website and other publicity materials.
- *Serves as a liaison with CTAHR ASAO, CTAHR Admin, and Graduate Division as well as UH Foundation, and other various departments throughout the University.
- Maintains and assists in yearly inventory of instruments, equipment and/or supplies in the MBBE offices.
- *Provides support to international J1 visiting colleagues, researchers, research scholars and student interns and serves as a liaison with CTAHR Personnel, FSIS and ISS offices.
- *Provides support in processing stipend and overload payments.
- *Provides support in hiring faculty, staff, student employees, lecturers, and graduate assistants; volunteers and maintains all personnel files.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in business, liberal arts, communications, or related field and 0 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities in business; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
- Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in business or academic or related area, demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology.
- Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with business or academic or related area.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of business or academic or related area.
- Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
- Some working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the field of course planning and scheduling, demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
- Some working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the secondary and postsecondary education as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts.
- Working knowledge of designing and maintaining websites.
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience in academic policies and procedures at the university level.
- Functional knowledge of university policies and procedures.
