Duties
Responsible for managing program responsibility, providing technical coordination and providing advice on the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Compliance program.,Advise professional staff members on all phases of medical record activities to ensure compliance with established procedures.,Develop guidance for hospital departments and committees to educate staff on regulatory requirements related to the Joint Commission standards for medical records management,Educate medical staff on the technical aspects of handling policies related to the privacy of medical records information.,Exercise technical and administrative supervision of the branch directly and through subordinate supervisors and leaders.,Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts priorities, and prepares schedules for work completion.,Develop performance standards and evaluates subordinate supervisors.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing two or more of the following: managing the medical records programs for inpatient or outpatient records; performing technically complex duties involved with auditing or analyzing or coding or reviewing medical data, provide guidance on phases of coding and identify deficiencies in coding. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
