The Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Traffic Safety Division is looking for an Information Specialist based in Austin, TX. Performs research, develops and generates a variety of informational articles, publications, documents, programs, procedural manuals, and presentations for the Traffic Safety Division. Work involves providing complex information through multiple types of media, developing and overseeing programs and processes. Work requires contact with the public. Work involves communicating information in person, electronically and via phone. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.
Essential Duties:
• Researches, plans, composes, edits, and reformats a variety of materials including manuals, newsletters, technical documents, brochures, forms, posters, organizational charts, speeches, talking points and presentations, utilizing applicable computer software programs.
• Develops informational and educational programs for employees and the public for print, audio/visual, and web-based formats.
• Reviews and analyzes incoming materials including literature, administrative rules, policy history, legislation and other research materials for pertinent information to be included in publications, documents, internal operating procedures, or written summaries.
• Directs, develops, and evaluates presentations, dashboards, metrics and goals.
• Develops and updates the division’s SharePoint sites and content. Creates new web pages and revises existing web pages, ensuring current content is displayed on the division’s internet and intranet sites.
• Coordinates and responds to Public Information / Open Records Requests for the Traffic Safety Division.
• Assists the Communications Division’s Media Relations Section by developing concise, accurate and timely responses to inquiries from the media regarding division responsibilities.
• Coordinates and responds to all TxDOT.gov customer service inquiries received in the Traffic Safety Division.
• Prepares sensitive and high-level correspondence and administrative or technical reports.
• Serves as representative in interagency groups and on technical committees.
• Answers inquiries regarding specific areas of expertise; assesses project requirements with clients and supervisors; defines audience and specifies goals.
• Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
