Description

Bodega Taqueria y Tequila is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Steward to join our team. The Steward plays a critical role in maintaining cleanliness and sanitation throughout the restaurant and kitchen. You will be responsible for washing dishes, sanitizing kitchen equipment, maintaining the overall cleanliness of all work areas, and supporting the kitchen and front-of-house teams to ensure smooth and efficient operations. This position reports directly to the General Manager or Assistant General Manager.


Essential Duties and Key Responsibilities:

Dishwashing & Sanitation:

  • Wash, rinse, and sanitize all dishes, glassware, utensils, and kitchen equipment using proper procedures.
  • Ensure all cleaned items are properly stored in designated locations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dishwashing area, including sinks, dish racks, and floors.
  • Operate dishwashing and cleaning equipment safely, following manufacturer and company guidelines.

Restaurant Cleanliness:

  • Maintain overall cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, prep areas, storage, and back hallways.
  • Sweep, mop, and clean floors throughout the restaurant including kitchen, dish area, restrooms, and employee areas.
  • Empty trash and recycling bins regularly and ensure proper disposal following health and safety standards.
  • Assist with periodic deep cleaning projects such as hood filters, walk-ins, drains, and walls.
  • Support front-of-house cleanliness as needed, including restrooms, windows, and dining areas.

Team Collaboration:

  • Support kitchen and service staff by maintaining a clean and stocked work environment.
  • Communicate effectively with team members to ensure smooth operations during service.
  • Assist with other tasks or duties as assigned by management.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Follow all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines established by the restaurant and local health department.
  • Handle cleaning chemicals and equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Immediately report any maintenance or safety issues to management.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in dishwashing, sanitation, or food service is an advantage.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Must have a high degree of professional integrity and be able to work safely, effectively, and efficiently.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, lift heavy items, and perform repetitive tasks.

Safety Requirements:

All associates must follow all safety rules and practice safe work habits. Any injury must be reported immediately to a supervisor or security officer.


Language Requirements:

  • Ability to speak and understand English clearly and cordially with staff and vendors.
  • Ability to read and understand written instructions and safety procedures.

Physical Requirements:
