Job Title: Shift Coordinator 

Location: Port sunlight factory

Work-Level: CB7

 
JOB PURPOSE 

The Shift Coordinator is responsible for supporting the RTS Leader in embedding Unilever Manufacturing Standards (UMS) and facilitating the smooth running on their allocated shift and by acting as an escalation point.  The Shift Co-ordinator will take a lead role in championing Safety, Quality, Customer Service and DC availability for that shift.

This will include:

  • Being a coach, and mentoring team members on shift to consistently deliver excellent customer service
  • Being responsible for co-ordinating the shift resource plan to ensure coverage and prioritisation, enabling the teams meet their operating objectives
  • Ensuring adherence to safety, quality and housekeeping standards on their allocated shift
  • Effectively utilising escalation matrices to ensure the timely reporting and resolution of issues.
  • Supporting fault recovery to completion at ground level and working from hight in the racking
  • Conduct planned AM in for form of CILs at ground level and at hight
  • Ensure safety at hight by recovering defective or poorly positioned pallets and securing areas within crane aisles & racking structures

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Safety

  • Ensure company safety policy, rules, and procedures are understood and followed at all times, encouraging everyone to behave safely and challenging unsafe behaviour.
  • Actively contribute to a safe working environment and culture by identifying and reporting health or safety hazards and dangerous situations involving Unilever personnel, site contractors, and visitors.
  • Participate in regular inspections/audits for good housekeeping and area safety, ensuring agreed actions are completed.
  • Execute tasks in line with Risk Assessments (RAs). Support in reviewing existing and new RAs. Support in creating RAs where none exist.
  • Be a point of escalation or safety issues and incidents, and assist with investigations, as required.

Quality

  • Execute quality procedures, tasks and documentation, including rework activities and quality investigations.
  • Handle products according to quality procedures and standards to achieve required product quality targets with minimal waste.
  • Be a point of escalation for the quality of finished pallets.

Customer Service

The impact of the Shift Co-ordinator’s decisions will be felt quickly; therefore, an immediate response is required to address any issues which may arise.

In this role you will need drive customer service via the shift teams to:

  • Ensure trucks are scheduled and loaded efficiently to maintain high customer service and avoid missed deliveries and demurrage.
  • Anticipate and react quickly to problems in order to avoid impact to customer service.
  • Be a point of escalation for Customer Service in a timely manner, where needed.

Cost

Lead improvements to reduce non-value-added activity including reducing Cost, Waste and Energy.

Run To Standard

  • Define, develop and follow 5S standards.
  • Maintain and improve 5S workplace organization.
  • Understand the area Run to Standard master plan and participate where appropriate.
  • Follow, document, and carry out Run to Standard tasks in line with role requirements. Tasks include:
    • AM activates & CILRs
    • Centrelines & Settings against the defined standards.
  • Support the Leader by highlighting opportunities to optimise maintenance that you find.
  • Restore work area to original condition after maintenance.
  • Report equipment issues using proper procedures such as the tag database.
  • Highlight any patterns you see which might indicate a breakdown or loss may occur.
  • Use structured Unilever problem solving techniques to provide breakdown information to engineers and support in analysis and counter measures where appropriate.
  • Record and classify losses accurately; manage loss data effectively.
  • Assist leaders & engineers in embedding a “Fix forever” mentality with appropriate countermeasures.
  • Develops and reviews SOPs, standards, and OPLs to be signed off by an authorised leader

Training and Development

  • Ensure all relevant skills are displayed on team skills matrix.
  • Take ownership to close skills gaps identified by the skills matrix by arranging and completing training activities.
  • Seek feedback from others to further development of own skills and raise standards.
  • Embrace training and development of the full team, supporting other team members where appropriate
  • When appropriate and relevant to your skillset, assist in training of new team members.

Problem Solving

Downtime and challenges within the Distribution Centre have the potential to stop PSL factories and customer deliveries. For example, collapsed pallets could cause a backup on the conveyors stopping the inflow of pallets from the factories. Delays in trailers arriving could cause missed deliveries and over filling of the high bay. A proactive response to problem solving is essential to avoid losses and ensure general smooth running within the Distribution Centre.

In this role you will need to:

  • Identify, diagnose and resolve common challenges with Machinery faults, System errors, MHE issues and miscellaneous problems.
  • Use Run to Standard concepts to trouble shoot more complex problems, understanding why the faults have occurred and identifying solutions to prevent future reoccurrence.
  • Collecting and escalating information on more complex faults to the Engineers.
  • A working knowledge of the machines/systems and processes will be needed to effectively participate in these problem-solving tasks.

Change

In this role you will need a proactive and collaborative attitude to change, including short notice planning changes to meet customer requests.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Identify improvement opportunities for example using the Kaizen Database to list ideas that benefit the business and reduce costs.
  • Drive best practices in safety and quality assurance by implementing efficient processes and collaborating with colleagues.
  • Participate in change initiatives, such as new installations and trials. Track successes and failures where needed to provide feedback on successes and challenges. Support team members to ensuring smooth ramp-up and procedural changes for all.

ALL ABOUT YOU 

Essential:

  • GCSEs, O-levels or equivalent in Maths, English and Science
  • Basic level of computing skills including MS Office and Excel
  • FLT license to the national standard and appropriately trained
  • Ability to work at hight (full site-specific working and rescue at hight training will be provided)

Desirable:

  • Experience in a manufacturing or technical environment (FMCG)
  • Practical creativity and Manual dexterity
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Previous SAP experience
