Internal Redeployment Only - Senior Technician

We seek a motivated Senior Technician to become a member of Viral ImmunoTherapies and Advanced therapeutics Laboratory (VITAL), in the research team of Dr Emily Bates. This funding is awarded by UKRI Proof of Concept Grant and will evaluate precision adenoviral therapies in mouse models of brain cancer.
The project will involve providing technical assistance to produce, purify and QC recombinant viruses. The project will also provide assistance with in vivo work involving tissue processing and analysing tissues and immune cells, and would include cell culture, immunology and/or molecular biology. The recruited individual will be a key team member responsible for the day to day running of the laboratory, including ordering reagents and managing budgets with the line manager.
This post, funded by UK Research & Innovation is based on the Heath Park campus.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week), fixed term until 30 September 2026, and available immediately.
Salary: £28,031 - £31,236 per annum (Grade 4). Appointments to roles at Cardiff University are usually made at bottom of scale unless in exceptional circumstances.

To provide a comprehensive provision of technical support to the Directorate/School in a supervisory/specialist function
Duties and Responsibilities
Key Duties
• Follow established guidelines to train technical staff and students in technical procedures and in the use of equipment
• Set up experimental systems and research apparatus, assisting students and staff in the use and construction of equipment and apparatus and with tests and experiments
• Operate, maintain, service, adjust, test and repair complex equipment and apparatus
• Participate in the development, modification and construction of special equipment and apparatus
• Take responsibility for stock levels, security, maintenance and cleanliness of materials, apparatus and equipment within the work area
• Record and perform detailed analysis on data, including responsibility for maintaining databases
• Undertake reviews of technical processes and procedures, in collaboration with line management, and advise on options for improvement
• Support the department in the implementation of new procedures and systems
General Duties
• Ensure that an understanding of the importance of confidentiality is applied when undertaking all duties
