The Opportunity: 

The University of Edinburgh is seeking a motivated and skilled Assistant Swim Coach to join our High-Performance Swimming Programme within the Performance Sport department. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to one of the UK’s leading university swimming environments, supporting student-athletes in achieving excellence at national and international levels.

Working closely with the Head Swim Coach, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality training sessions, providing technical feedback, and fostering a culture of discipline, professionalism and continuous improvement. You will also support the planning and delivery of competitions, including BUCS, Scottish and British Championships, and international events.

This role offers the opportunity to coach within a world-class sporting environment that is strategically aligned with Aquatics GB and Scottish Swimming, contributing to athlete development, welfare, and performance outcomes.

This post is full-time.

The salary for this post is £29,588 to £33,951 per annum.

Your skills and attributes for success: 

  • UKCC Level 2 Coaching qualification (or equivalent) in Swimming
  • Demonstrable experience coaching in a competitive swimming environment
  • Strong technical knowledge and the ability to deliver engaging, high-quality sessions
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to motivate and support athletes to achieve their performance goals
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings and weekends typical of a high-performance environment
  • Proficient IT and digital literacy, including experience with video and performance analysis tools

Desirable:

  • UKCC Level 3 (or working towards)
  • Experience in a university or high-performance swimming setting
  • Knowledge of performance analysis technologies (e.g. Dartfish, Hudl, Omega systems)
  • First Aid and Safeguarding & Protecting Children certificates
