Primary Function

Coordinate and manage nursing services and patient flow and oversee nursing and hospital operations managing risk, clinical quality, and patient and family satisfaction during the shift assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates coordination of response to a patient medical emergency and coordinates transport as needed
  • Responds to a staff injury and coordinates care and transport as needed
  • Assists and manages completion of appropriate documentation regarding employee injury (CNE employee incident report)
  • Assists and manages completion of patient documentation i.e. (occurrence report) and /or continuous care/ transfer forms.
  • Obtains necessary medications from �documed� using proper procedures when pharmacy is closed
  • Obtains necessary medical equipment and supplies internally or externally as needed by patients.
  • Provides access to lab after hours for blood drawing equipment
  • Communicate and collaborates with DOC and other on call MD�s
  • Communicates with Administrator on call to problem solve serious occurrences
  • Facilitates responses to PAS to manage emergencies and/or admit patients in a timely, efficient and caring manner
  • Responds and assists in managing concerns of patients� families
  • Demonstrates ability to identify root cause of problems and proposes effective solutions.
  • Demonstrates ability to role model and provide consistent leadership to staff
  • Provides clear accurate and timely information to all staff
  • Maintains excellent working relationships with MD�s, patients, families and staff
  • Serves as role model relative to work ethic and behavior (i.e. reliable, flexible, personal appearance)
  • Demonstrates consistency in performance and productivity
  • Works effectively and confidentially with others to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Organizes work to be effective and efficient
  • Supervises staff in problem solving and conflict management
  • Communicates and collaborates with the DOC during shift
  • Acts as liaison between staff on shift and nursing administration regarding clinical and administrative matters
  • Coordinates and collaborates with the admissions nursing supervisor in relationship to patient flow.
  • Consistently rounds several times during shift and meets with the charge nurses on units and PAS to assess needs.
  • Monitors admissions to ensure timely movement from PAS to the unit and assist the CANM with resources as needed and in the absence of the admissions nursing supervisor.
  • Demonstrates skill in adapting staffing roster during shift to ensure adequate nursing coverage.
  • Follows union/hospital rules in securing staff to cover a shift.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of Hospital chain of command and consistently communicates as needed.
  • Communicates staffing issues to the Director of Nursing Operations and clinical concerns to the Nurse Managers
  • Understands budgetary considerations and utilizes staff, supplies and materials in a cost effective manner
  • Assists charge nurses in problem solving and decision making
  • Understands regulatory requirements (JCAHO, DOH) and ensures units meet those requirements.
  • Monitors compliance with standards of care by observation, feedback
  • Consistently ensures efficient and effective use of time and effort of all personnel on the shift
  • Participates in performance appraisals of staff
  • Observes all general Hospital policies, guiding principles, rules and regulations
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Supervises: Nurses, Mental Health Workers, and Scheduler during shift

Job Qualifications and Specifications

  • Education: RN, Bachelors Degree required, Masters degree preferred
  • Training and Experience: Must have current RI RN license and four years of experience in psychiatric nursing and at least one year of management experience.

Schedule: 24/48 Part Time Nights / Benefited Position
