Job Purpose: The Patient Call Center position is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely billing and collections for patient accounts, providing exceptional customer service to patients and insurance companies, and supporting the financial operations of the organization. This role serves as a key point of contact for patient inquiries, resolves billing issues, and maintains strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines. By preparing claims, processing payments, and managing account follow-ups, the Patient Call Center contributes to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the business office.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Prepares and submits clean claims to various insurance companies either electronically or by paper.
- Answers questions from patients, clerical staff and insurance companies.
- Identifies and resolves patient billing complaints.
- Prepares, reviews and sends patient statements.
- Evaluates patient's financial status and establishes budget payment plans.
- Follows and reports status of delinquent accounts.
- Reviews accounts for possible assignments and makes recommendations to the Team Lead, also prepares information for the collection agency.
- Performs daily backups on office computer system.
- Performs various collection actions including contacting patients by phone, correcting, resubmitting claims to third party payers, verifying insurance, charge, payment and refund posting as well as coding reviews and audits.
- Processes payments from insurance companies and prepares a daily deposit.
- Participates in educational activities.
- Conducts self in accordance with GU's employee manual.
- Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Training
- High School Diploma or GED.
Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of medical billing/collection practices.
- Knowledge of computer programs.
- Knowledge of business office procedures.
- Knowledge of basic medical coding and third-party operating procedures and practices.
- Ability to operate a multi-line telephone system.
- Skill in answering a telephone in a pleasant and helpful manner.
- Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees and the public.
- Must be well organized and detail oriented.
Computer literacy:
- Ability to operate a computer and basic office equipment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical Demands: Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment. Manual dexterity needed for using a calculator and computer keyboard.
