Job Description:

Summary:

The Postdoctoral Researcher will analyze data collected through eye-tracking, surveys, online studies, and citizen science approaches; write up studies for dissemination in peer-reviewed journals; assist with the development and creation of study designs and oversee data collection.
 

Essential Functions:

       

1.) Data Analysis and Dissemination of Results

  • The Postdoctoral Researcher will analyze data collected from on-going studies, including eye-tracking, surveys, online studies, and citizen science approaches. The Postdoctoral Researcher will conduct a priori analyses outlined in the grant and propose additional analyses relevant to the research study aims. The Postdoctoral Researcher will prepare datasets for publication on open access websites such as OSF. The Postdoctoral Researcher will conduct literature reviews and summarize recent literature to prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. The Postdoctoral Researcher will prepare conference abstracts and present research findings at conferences such as APA; AERA; Cognitive Neuroscience Society, International Mind, Brain and Education Society; and NARST. The Postdoctoral Researcher will mentor graduate students and a post-bac research assistant in data analysis as applicable.

 

2.) Study Design and Development

  • The Postdoctoral Researcher will support the design and development of materials, stimuli, and protocols for data collection. The Postdoctoral Researcher will assist with programming studies to deploy in person and online. The Postdoctoral Researcher will assist with the development of citizen science research activities conducted online and in person. The Postdoctoral Researcher will mentor graduate students and a post-bac research assistant in study design and development as applicable.

3.) Data Collection

  • The Postdoctoral researcher will collect data in adherence with study protocols, such as: informed consent, administering interventions, eye-tracking measurements, and surveys. The Postdoctoral Researcher will mentor graduate students and a post-bac research assistant in data collection as applicable.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Full-Time.

  • 35 hours per week.

  • Hybrid 1 work modality (on campus 3 - 4 days per week).

  • Continuation of the program/position is contingent upon external funding.


Salary Range:

  • $55,000 - $65,000 annually.

Required Education and Experience:

  • PhD in psychology, neuroscience, education, or related field with a focus in one or more of the following areas: curiosity, motivation, and/or visual processing.

  • 3 - 5 years of relevant experience.

  • Computational skills and programming experience in R, Python, and/or Stata.

  • Data management and data analysis experience.

  • Experience preparing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • 4 - 6 years of relevant experience

  • Experience with programming/coding of experimental stimuli presentation using neuroscience/psychology research tools (e.g., Qualtrics, E-prime, Psychopy, Pavlovia, SR Research Experiment Builder).

  • Experience with eye-tracking data collection and analysis is strongly preferred.

  • Prior experience with in person human subjects research including data collection strongly preferred.

  • Experience working with adolescents/children or working in a school setting is preferred.

  • The intention to make a 3-year commitment is preferred.

Travel Required:

  • This position includes travel to schools or research sites within the DMV area. Overnight travel is not required.
