Summary
The ideal candidate will maintain, repair and install plumbing systems, fixtures and equipment to ensure proper and safe operation.
Essential Functions
Job duties include, although are not limited to:
- Responding to requests throughout the facility to make the necessary repairs to plumbing fixtures in a timely and courteous manner. Maintaining, repairing and replacing water, steam, gas and drain piping within the facility to ensure proper operation and function of piping systems. The plumber must be familiar with piping materials, sizes, measurements and posse’s skills in pipe threading and sweating copper. Knowledge of installing PVC, no-hub, threaded, and copper pipe is necessary. The work will involve lifting and carrying materials or equipment up to 80 pounds, working in ceilings, and from ladders or other uneven surfaces. He or she will also need to work in confined spaces, awkward positions, wet, unpleasant and unsanitary conditions as required.
- Maintaining fire standpipe, sprinkler systems and fire extinguishers throughout the facility to ensure proper working condition and fire protection in compliance with local regulatory codes. Lifting and carrying of fire extinguisher weighing up to 50 lbs. is required.
- Maintaining grease traps and sewage ejector pits to prevent waste line blockages. The plumber will be required to keep this equipment clean and maintained on a routine basis. Chemical treatment is required to maintain these systems.
In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the supervisor based upon the particular requirements of the company.
- Assist with contractor requests for temporary water supplies or shutting off of water, steam and gas supplies.
- Assist in other trades.
- Stock supplies.

Reports to Director of Property Operation
External Relationships
Has regular contact with guests, housekeeping department, contractors.
Qualifications
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Considerable knowledge of plumbing systems and equipment in order to maintain and repair plumbing operations within the building.
- Working knowledge of pressurized water extinguishers.
- Knowledge of sanitary codes.
- Knowledge of general safe operating procedures, success while performing repairs to equipment (relieving pressure before repairing pipe).
- Skill in threading and sweating pipe.
- Skill in use of related tools including threading machine, electric snakes, equipment for sweating and other basic hand tools.
- Basic English language skills in order to communicate with customers and co-workers, fully comprehend job assignments, and follow manufacturer instructions.
Education/Experience Requirements
- High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
- Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Five years plumbing experience in building with complex plumbing systems.
Physical Requirements
Lifting 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs. It requires walking or standing to a significant degree, as well as reaching, handling, feeling, talking, hearing, and seeing.
