Position Summary
The Composites Commodity Manager is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies for composite raw materials and related processes used in manufacturing. Position SummaryThe Composites Commodity Manager is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies for composite raw materials and related processes used in manufacturing. This role manages supplier relationships, negotiates contracts, and ensures a reliable and cost-effective supply base to support production and new product development. The Composites Commodity Manager partners with engineering, operations, quality, and supply chain teams to optimize cost, quality, and delivery while driving long-term strategic value.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement category strategies for composite materials (e.g., carbon fiber, fiberglass, resins, adhesives, prepregs, honeycomb, laminates).
Lead sourcing initiatives including supplier identification, RFP/RFQ management, negotiations, and contract execution.
Establish and manage supplier relationships to ensure capacity, quality, and compliance with manufacturing requirements.
Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to qualify new materials and suppliers.
Monitor and analyze market trends, material cost drivers, and supply risks to guide strategic decisions.
Drive total cost of ownership (TCO) improvements through value engineering, demand management, and long-term agreements.
Ensure supplier adherence to quality, delivery, and regulatory requirements.
Support new product introductions by aligning material sourcing strategies with program needs.
Lead cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives in the composites supply base.
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or related field required; advanced degree or CPSM/CPIM certification preferred.
5+ years of procurement, sourcing, or commodity management experience, with direct experience in composites or advanced materials strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of composites manufacturing processes, specifications, and industry standards.
Proven negotiation and contract management skills.
Experience with ERP/MRP systems and procurement analytics tools.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management abilities.
Demonstrated ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Occasional standing and walking within the office.
Manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
Visual acuity to read screens, documents, and reports.
Work in a warehouse/manufacturing environment with exposure to forklifts, machinery, and varying temperatures.
Occasional reaching, bending, or stooping to access file drawers, cabinets, or office supplies.
Lifting and carrying items up to 50 pounds occasionally.
