Primary Purpose: To provide support and leadership for district and campus college, career, and military readiness initiatives
Qualifications: Education/Certification: Master’s degree required Valid Texas principal or school counselor certification
Special Knowledge and Skills: Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Positive attitude and strong commitment to student achievement Knowledge of high school graduation requirements Proficiency with assisting students with college admissions applications and financial aid processes Proficiency with developing and facilitating relevant and well-planned guidance lessons Knowledge of scholarship opportunities and application procedures Ability to access, disaggregate, interpret, and disseminate data from multiple sources Proficiency with Excel and Google Sheets, or willingness to learn and develop proficiency upon hire Knowledge of college and military readiness assessments (SAT, ACT, TSIA, ASVAB) Knowledge of dual credit/enrollment, Advanced Placement, and International Baccalaureate programs Knowledge of high school career and technical education programs of study and industry certifications Understanding of Texas Education Agency’s A-F accountability system and CCMR indicators Experience with online credit recovery/acceleration platforms and Credit By Examination Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders
Experience: At least three (3) years of experience as an administrator or school counselor preferred English/Spanish bilingual preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of a structured K-12 college and career readiness awareness and guidance program
Gathers information on student needs from families, teachers, administrators, other school staff and community organizations to inform the selection of strategies for student success
Organizes and leads high school counselors in college admissions application and financial aid assistance guidance lessons
Leads elementary and middle school counselors in assigned schools in the development and delivery of career exploration lessons and activities
Assists in the coordination and delivery of the yearly college fair
Provides yearly training to middle school counselors and part-time employees on 8th grade Personal Graduation Plans
Provides training and guidance on online CCMR platform activities to elementary, middle, and high school counselors and administrators at assigned schools
Attends CCMR departmental and CCMR advisory board meetings and actively participates in graduation team meetings at assigned high school/s
Promotes awareness of dual credit, dual enrollment, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, credit by examination, night school, and online acceleration and recovery opportunities
Assists in the updates of CCMR guide
Provides yearly training to high school counselors, administrators, and advisors at assigned campuses for ApplyTexas Counselor Suite, as well as FAFSA and TASFA application procedures and changes
Provides yearly training to middle and high school counselors pertaining to high school graduation requirements including endorsements, distinguished level of achievement, and performance acknowledgements
Serves an active role in Individual Graduation Committee meetings
Assists high school counselors, designated staff, and military recruiters in providing interpretation of PSAT, SAT, TSIA, and ASVAB results to students and their parents
Coordinates staff awareness training and promotion of the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) on assigned high school campus
Promotes college access and resources for aspiring first generation college students, English Learners, and students in historically underserved populations
Disseminates information about scholarships to students, counselors, and advisory teachers
Disseminates PSAT/SAT data to high school counselors, administrators, and advisory teachers
Regularly retrieves, disaggregates, and analyzes CCMR-related data
Assists the associate principal or principal’s designee at assigned high school with tracking A-F accountability CCMR indicators for all students, monitoring juniors and seniors closely and recommending supports and interventions based on individual student needs
Assists the Assistant Director of Student Information and CTE coordinator in tracking industry-based certifications earned by CTE students and ensures transcript entry of performance acknowledgements
Collaborate with higher education partners, such as Go Center mentors and college outreach and financial aid staff, to provide student and parent information and assistance events during the school day and on designated evenings and weekends
Completes required professional development as determined by the superintendent or CCMR coordinator
Performs all other duties as deemed necessary by the Superintendent or designee
