Saxe Middle School is seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher to join our team beginning in the 2025-26 school year. Under the direction of the Special Education Administrator, the teacher will work collaboratively with a skilled team of professionals, including related service personnel and teaching assistants, to provide specialized instruction tailored to students with complex learning profiles, including Autism, Down Syndrome, and Intellectual Disabilities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide direct instruction to students requiring special education services.
Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Behavior Management Plans.
Prepare progress reports, year-end evaluations, and administer pre- and post-assessments as needed.
Collaborate with the team to conduct multidisciplinary evaluations as appropriate.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date student records, including IEPs, data collection, and evaluation reports.
Coordinate student schedules with other staff members and administration.
Manage and oversee Teaching Assistants' responsibilities and schedules.
Foster effective communication with administration, staff, and parents/guardians to support student success.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Holds or is eligible for Connecticut State Certification as a Special Education Teacher.
Experience working with students of varied abilities, including those on the Autism spectrum.
Proficiency in data collection and analysis to inform instructional decisions.
