About the Role:
The Audio Visual Technology Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the seamless operation and management of all audio-visual systems within the Chicago History Musuem. This position is responsible for overseeing the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of AV equipment to support events, conferences, and daily operations. The manager collaborates closely with event planners, technical staff, and external vendors to deliver high-quality AV experiences that enhance guest satisfaction and operational efficiency. They lead a team of AV technicians, providing training and guidance to maintain technical excellence and responsiveness. Ultimately, this role ensures that all AV technology aligns with organizational goals and contributes to memorable and engaging experiences for clients and guests.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED
- certification(s) or degree(s) in Audio Visual Technology, Information Technology, Communications, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience managing AV systems in a museum, hospitality, tourism, theater, or recreation setting.
- Proficiency with AV equipment including projectors, sound systems, video conferencing tools, and control systems.
- Strong leadership skills with experience supervising technical teams.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work under pressure during live events.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in AV technology such as CTS (Certified Technology Specialist) or equivalent.
- Experience with advanced AV software platforms and event management systems.
- Knowledge of network infrastructure as it relates to AV system integration.
- Familiarity with emerging AV technologies and trends in the hospitality industry.
- Previous experience working in large-scale event venues or resorts.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the day-to-day operations of all audio-visual equipment and systems across multiple venues or event spaces.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute AV setups for events, exhibitions, meetings, and conferences, ensuring all technical requirements are met.
- Lead, train, and supervise support team members, av techs, and contractors, while, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
- Conduct regular maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting of AV hardware and software to minimize downtime and optimize performance.
- Collaborate with event coordinators, vendors, and other departments to ensure seamless integration of AV services with overall event planning and execution.
- The need to be able to answer on calls and or emergency situations.
- The ability to work and or cover an occasional swing shift.
Skills:
The required skills enable the manager to effectively oversee the technical setup and operation of AV systems, ensuring high-quality audio and visual experiences during events, exhibitions, meetings, and theater programs. Leadership and communication skills are essential for managing and motivating the vendors, contractors and support staff, as well as coordinating with other departments and external partners. Technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills are applied daily to quickly resolve any equipment or software issues that arise. Preferred skills such as certification and knowledge of network infrastructure enhance the manager’s ability to implement advanced AV solutions and stay current with industry innovations.
