VDOT is seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer (Sr NE) to implement and provide support to the agency’s IT Network infrastructure. The Sr NE performs day-to-day activities related to the support and documentation of VDOT Network infrastructure.
Job Overview:
VDOT is seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer (Sr NE) to implement and provide support to the agency’s IT Network infrastructure. The Sr NE performs day-to-day activities related to the support, documentation, research, analysis, and implementation of VDOT Network related infrastructure.
Candidate must have in-depth, considerable knowledge and hands-on experience understanding, documenting, and maintaining Network related infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Considerable knowledge and working experience with enterprise routers, switches, VPN concentrators, firewalls, wireless access points, and load balancers (including the ability to document, set up, configure, upgrade, manage, and troubleshoot)
- Be capable of troubleshooting Network related infrastructure.
- Identifies and diagnoses system problems by using line monitors, diagnostic software, test equipment.
- Works closely with agency’s IT infrastructure suppliers and stakeholders to gather requirements, specifications, and configurations to assure they are accurate and up to date.
- Responsible for assisting in troubleshooting and resolving network issues impacting application performance and uptime.
- Assist in overseeing the installation, documentation, and upgrades of various agency facility data network infrastructure.
- Will oversee and collaborate with cloud and DevSecOps teams to optimize hybrid connectivity and SDWAN configurations.
- Must have the ability to provide documentation, network architecture topology diagrams, IP schemes, firewall rules, and access controls when required.
- Must have the ability to work independently on assigned projects.
- Must have minimally obtained an industry standard networking certification (example: Cisco CCNA, Juniper JNCIA- Junos, etc.)
Requirements
- Considerable knowledge and hands-on working experience with enterprise routers, switches, VPN concentrators, firewalls, and wireless access points--Required 8 Years
- Considerable hands-on working experience setting up, configuring, upgrading, managing and troubleshooting routers/switches, and WAPS--Required 8 Years
- Demonstrated and hands-on ability to design, install and troubleshoot local-area and wide-area enterprise networks--Required 8 Years
- Considerable direct hands-on experience engineering and design experience in networking industry required--Required 8 Years
- Industry standard networking certification (example: Cisco CCNA, Juniper JNCIA- Junos, etc.)--Required
- In-depth experience designing installing and troubleshooting local-area and wide-area enterprise networks--Required 8 Years
- Experience monitoring IT environments for compliance with information security, architecture policies, and standards--Required 8 Years
- Experience creating repeatable, reliable, scalable network architectures with fault tolerance--Required 8 Years
- Experience performance tuning, monitoring systems, statistics/metrics collection, and disaster recovery--Required 8 Years
- Experience creating network diagrams using industry standard tools such as Visio, etc--Required 8 Years
- Experience with networking features and protocols such as: ARP, CDP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, VTP, Etherchannel, HSRP, QoS, multicast, IPsec, etc--Required 8 Years
- Experience working with SDWAN--Desired 3 Years
- Experience working with network topology related to Cloud--Desired 3 Years
