TITLE:  Speech Language Pathologist/Therapist

REPORTS TO:   Executive Director of Special Programs, Site Administrator

 

SUPERVISES:   SLPA

 

PURPOSE: Deliver Speech-Language Therapy services in the educational setting on behalf of students who are limited by communication disorders, language delays, speech impairments, voice or fluency disorders, or difficulties related to developmental, neurological, or learning disabilities in order to improve functional communication skills, support academic success, foster social interaction, and promote independence. Services include evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, consultation, collaboration with staff and families, training, and program monitoring.

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid AZ DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program 
  • Valid ADE SLP/T certification
  • Valid ADHS Speech-Language Pathologist License 
  • Valid license issued by the Arizona Board of Speech Examiners as an SLP/T
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) (preferred)
  • Valid Arizona driver's license
  • Developmental, pediatric of school-based experience preferred
  • Ability to contribute and participate in the assessment, intervention, and documentation process
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work independently and to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with district personnel and other team members

 

Provide speech related services to the district’s students who meet the criteria for such services.

  1. Have a working knowledge of, and keep administration informed of, speech guidelines and regulations.
  2. Assist with student registrations in regard to speech concerns.
  3. Perform speech evaluations on the district’s students as regulations require.
  4. Conduct interviews and home visits as required to effectively service the speech needs of the students of the district.
  5. Provide services to students with speech disabilities or speech needs as required.
  6. Communicate as needed with administrators and instructional staff special instructions or needs of the district’s speech students.
  7. Prepare and maintain all required records and paperwork on speech students.
  8. Prepare and manage an assessment plan for each speech student.
  9. Practice professionalism and confidentiality in all matters dealing with speech students and their records.
  10. Attend classes, clinics, in-services and seminars as needed to improve knowledge and skills and to keep current with the latest in health laws, services, requirements and functions as they pertain to the district’s needs.
  11. Perform all duties and assignments and use materials and operate equipment in a safe and responsible manner, using all safety equipment or clothing which might be reasonable to ensure the safety of self, fellow employees and students.
  12. Perform emergency tasks as needed and directed.
  13. Assume responsibility for and secure the district assigned keys which are assigned to you for your job use and safekeeping.
  14. Listen to, understand and carry out oral and written instructions and directives, and respond with oral and written reports as required.
  15. Maintain good personal cleanliness and dress appropriately for the position.
  16. Practice good public relations techniques with students, staff, administration and parents, demonstrating a cordial and friendly manner.
  17. Work efficiently and cooperatively with other staff members.
  18. Work independently and in groups, and be a self-starter.
  19. Practice regular and consistent attendance, arriving and departing at the designated times for your position.
  20. Refrain from the use of inappropriate, obscene or foul language.
  21. Maintain in good condition and store for safekeeping all property, supplies and materials of the district.
  22. Maintain district security by locking all doors and gates for which you are responsible, being on campus only during reasonable hours, and reporting to the Head Custodian, Director of Maintenance, Business Manager or Superintendent any problems with locks, lighting, windows, utilities, etc.
  23. Assist in keeping the district campuses clean and orderly.
  24. Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent.
