About the Department

Catawba County Social Services is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Nutrition Site Supervisor to lead the Seniors Morning Out (SMO) Program located on the campus of First Presbyterian Church in Newton. This part-time role plays a vital part in enriching the lives of seniors (older adults) by offering nutritious meals, social connection, and wellness-based activities in a safe and supportive environment. 


This position is part-time, working 24 hours per week, and receives benefits (prorated at 60%).


Schedule is typically Monday – Thursday from 8 AM – 2 PM. One Friday morning per month is required, with weekly hours adjusted accordingly to maintain a consistent 24 hours per week schedule.

Position Duties

  • Manage daily nutrition site operations to ensure compliance with Agency and State standards (Home and Community Care Block Grant)
  • Oversee the safety, comfort, and well-being of seniors on-site
  • Plan and lead engaging daily programs, activities, and outings
  • Ensure meals meet quality, quantity, and food safety standards 
  • Order and serve meals; oversee site cleanliness and kitchen safety
  • Supervise and train program volunteers
  • Oversee five home-delivered meal routes
  • Process applications and determine eligibility for the Farmers Market and Commodity Programs; connect seniors to community resources
  • Record-keeping, documentation, data entry, and reporting 
  • Promote SMO program participation through outreach, events, and newsletters
  • Communicate with supervisors and staff regarding client needs, food concerns, and transportation arrangements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree in a Human Services field; OR
  • Associate’s degree in any field and 1 year of related experience; OR
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent and 2 years of related experience 

Other Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record (Driving is an essential function of this position)
  • Highly creative and energetic with the ability to organize and multitask to plan and coordinate various programs and activities for seniors 
  • Ability to assess daily changes in clients
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills to work collaboratively with seniors, community volunteers, and other human services-related staff 
  • Effective computer skills  
  • This is considered medium work; lifting up to 50 pounds on a regular basis to carry meals, coolers, and supplies.


Preferences:

  • Supervisory or volunteer management experience
  • Experience working with older adults, including those with early signs of dementia
