Under the general direction and supervision of the Systems Manager the Network/IT Administrator implements, maintains, monitors and troubleshoots LAN/WAN infrastructure, servers, IP Telephony, and enterprise software. This position assists the Systems Manager in development and management of the Borough’s computing environment. In addition, this position assists the Systems Manager in staff deployment and supervision when requested by the Systems Manager.
Position Duties
High school diploma or GED; four years’ experience in a multi-user computing environment, at least two of which involved administering a computer network; a Cisco Certified Network Associate and Microsoft Certified System Administrator certification or the equivalent knowledge and competency; experience with Microsoft Exchange, VMWare vSphere, Cisco IOS, Cisco Unified Communications Manager and Unity Messaging desirable; and have a valid Alaska driver's license to perform all job functions.
Minimum Qualifications
Install, configure, and maintain servers, network components, network cabling, backup systems, IP telephony and other related equipment, devices, and systems.
Troubleshoot networks, systems, and applications to identify and correct malfunctions and other operational difficulties.
Evaluate and/or recommend purchases of computers, network hardware, peripheral equipment, and software.
Assist users in analyzing and developing solutions to their computing needs.
Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks.
Establish and perform maintenance programs following Borough and vendor standards.
Write and maintain system standards and documentation.
Stay current on IT trends so as to better recommend and apply solutions to the Borough’s computing needs.
Educate IT staff regarding emerging computing technologies.
Assist in ensuring the recoverability of the Borough’s computing environment.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers dexterously to operate office equipment, and to communicate orally; regularly required to sit and occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally transport up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
