Middle School Kitchen Manager – 8.0 Hours

Primary Function: The Middle School Kitchen Manager will provide students with a healthy, high quality, nutritious lunch within the guidelines of the Michigan Department of Education School Lunch Program, and Oakland County Health Department consistent with the district’s mission statement, with a focus on increasing participation.

Qualifications – Education & Experience:

High school diploma; Completion of Introduction to Food Service through the Michigan Department of Education and ServSafe.
Eighteen years of age or older.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with school personnel, students, and community.
Excellent attendance record.
Possess a working knowledge of basic computer operation.
Knowledge and experience in menu planning, ordering and inventory of supplies, recipe conversions, portion control standards and food presentation.
Knowledge and experience in operating and proper maintenance of kitchen equipment.
Knowledge and experience in staff supervision and delegation of job assignments.
Must have demonstrated knowledge and experience in quantity food prep/cooking for more than 200 people.
Must be able to follow oral and written directions from the Nutrition Services Director.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to perform all basic skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Knowledge in maintaining daily records and reports required by the Department of Education, USDA, and the Health Department.
Successful completion of Kitchen Manager Test.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
All duties and responsibilities of the Cafeteria Helper position plus the following:

Assure that food is ordered, delivered, and stored appropriately.
Monitor food production to assure planned menus are followed and that substitutions comply with meal requirements.
Maintain full and accurate meal production records, inventories, time sheets, and daily schedules.
Provide on-the-job training to staff in the areas of food production, sanitation, computerized cash registers, etc.
Plan and implement work schedules and recommend changes in staffing levels.
Promote student satisfaction by merchandising and serving meals in an attractive manner.
Be innovative in operations and procedures.
Ensure sanitation and safety procedures in all phases of the food service operation.
Assess food service equipment needs.
Utilize government commodities, store appropriately and inventory monthly.
Give direction, written and/or oral, to insure the efficiency of daily operations.
Perform duties and functions assigned and deemed necessary by the nature of the work assigned.
Make appropriate decisions for the overall benefit of the School Lunch Program.
Keep lines of communication open between staff, kitchen managers and Nutrition Services Supervisor.
Build and maintain a strong and collaborative team.
Maintain good public relations with students, staff, and community.
Attend learning activities, maintain a positive image, and promote the benefits of the School Lunch Program.
Other duties as assigned.

Base Hourly Rate: $21.64
