Job Summary
Involves the fields of healthcare technology management (systems engineering, biomedical engineering, regulatory compliance, new technology assessment and deployment). Includes technology selection, device integration, interfacing with IT security, infrastructure and networks and biomedical equipment services (inventory and maintenance of equipment). Applies a broad scope of diagnostic, therapeutic, and equipment maintenance technologies used in the delivery of patient care. May provide technical support during highly instrumented medical procedures. Provides consultation, instruction and / or technical direction for medical, nursing and other paramedical staff in the safe use of biomedical equipment.
Manages technical and administrative operations through organizing and delegating to technical and non-technical team members to ensure equipment and technology of a clinical specialty are configured, maintained, and performing to standards. Develops/Deployment Plans for new technology and implements changes to equipment management workflows and operational processes to ensure the clinical specialty technology and systems are optimally configured to support patient care and meets all applicable codes and regulations. The site/modality specific Assoc. Director operates with minimum supervision for all site/modality wide BIS functions
Applies professional knowledge or expertise in one or more specialty areas within EH&S and serves as lead person on one or more program(s) within a single discipline. Work is reviewed upon completion to ensure predetermined objectives are adequately met and that application of professional / technical judgment is sound. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice. Decision-making is based on established procedures; relevant laws; regulations and organizational policy; professional best practices; relevant science methodology; impact on other EH&S programs, and senior management approvals as required. Decisions may impact individual work, other EH&S programs, other departments and / or segments of the organization.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $87,200 - $130,800 (Annual Rate).

Required Qualifications
- Academic knowledge and applied background in engineering principles and biomedical equipment management. Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge in an acute and critical care setting to improve clinical workflows and medical device operations.
- Broad knowledge of medical center, HR and UC policies and processes. Knowledge of relevant biomedical equipment safety regulations and performance standards. Ability to apply policy knowledge to suggest improvements to compliance risks and regulatory issues.
- Advanced user of internal clinical engineering technology and systems. Knowledge of available information technology systems for clinical specialty area
- Leadership skills in employee supervision and HR administration to effectively lead and motivate others. Conflict resolution skills to resolve personnel issues and counsel assigned staff to develop cooperative working relationships
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a complex, challenging environment. Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility, anticipates and effectively handles change
- Ability to organize division operations in an efficient and effective manner through improving clinical workflows and equipment management processes and systems.
- Ability to collaborate within and across departments to integrate daily clinical engineering activities and resolve problems. Interpersonal skills to maintain professional relationships with peers, senior management, clinical staff in functional area, and assigned staff.
- Proven analytical abilities and problem solving skills to quickly evaluate complex issues and identify options for resolution. Demonstrates sound judgment
- Verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate through all mediums and with all groups. Demonstrated abilities to listen actively, persuade, advise, and counsel.
- 5+ years experience managing a Biomedical or Imaging Shop
