The English Language Institute (ELI) at The University of Akron invites applications for a part-time English language Instructor position to meet the instructional needs of the institute. The successful candidate will teach academic English to conditionally admitted international student and community members who do not speak English as their first language. The position requires in-person delivery of classes.
Must have credentials and experience that meet the minimum requirements for the position including relevant service in or outside of the University. Not eligible for tenure.
Educational Requirements
Required Education: A bachelor’s in TESOL or a bachelor’s in related fields with a TESOL Certificate or a TESOL Endorsement.
Preferred Education: A bachelor’s in TESOL, a master’s in TESOL, linguistics, and applied linguistics; or a bachelor’s or master’s in English, Education, or related fields with a TESOL Certificate or a TESOL Endorsement.
Any Professional Certifications: a bachelor’s or master’s in TESOL, a TESOL Certificate, or a TESOL Endorsement.
Experience Requirements
Experience in teaching ESL or EFL preferred.
Responsibilities
Teach academic English (listening, speaking, reading, or/and writing)
Receive on-the-job training and contribute to the development of curricula, assessment, and teaching materials to ensure high standards of English language education
Fulfill other responsibilities as assigned by ELI’s Director to make up for the workload if the classes being taught have low enrollment
