Custodian VI - PM - 5 hrs/day x 212/days per year RESPONSIBLE TO: Building Principal and Superintendent
JOB GOALS: To provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or equivalent diploma. Post secondary training or experience in a trade is preferred.
2. Meets all mandated health requirements.
3. Documentation of a clear criminal record.
4. Custodial or building maintenance experience.
5. Basic mechanical, electrical, plumbing and carpentry skills.
6. Self-directed and able to learn required skills for the position.
7. Ability to read and comply with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
8. Available to respond to building and/or service emergencies.
9. Physical ability to perform all aspects of the responsibilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Coordinates and maintains the general cleaning and maintenance of the school building.
a) Facilitates the washing of all windows, inside and outside, as needed.
b) Cleans classrooms daily and dusts as needed.
c) Clean and disinfects bathroom floors daily, cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains daily.
d) Cleans floors and stairways daily.
e) Reports immediately to the Principal and/or Superintendent any damage to school property, and any major repairs needed.
2. Moves furniture and equipment within buildings as required for various activities.
3. Participates in necessary general repairs to plumbing, electrical, carpentry and general mechanical areas.
4. Assumes responsibility for the general security and the general fire safety of the building:
a) Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors will open and all panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
b) Visually inspects and monitors all boilers and other major equipment. Report concerns/problems to the Principal and/or Superintendent.
5. Generally supervises and maintains school grounds: keeps grounds free of rubbish.
6. Complies with local law and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash, rubbish and waste.
7. Raises and lowers the United States flag daily when required.
8. Maintains hazard free sidewalks and entry way.
9. Takes initiative to perform routine tasks independently.
10. Deals with unexpected situations (e.g. ill children, spills, broken glass).
11. Follows approved safety procedures to clean up injuries involving chemicals, solvents, blood, body fluids and/or body tissues.
12. Participates in occupational safety and health training programs as directed.
13. Helps with receipt of deliveries.
14. Organizes and stores supplies.
15. Promptly documents all injuries that require medical attention.
16. Performs other specific job-related duties as directed.
17. All Classified employees are encouraged to attend up to four (4) in-service or orientation meetings annually on a voluntary basis.
18. Able to change work assignment from school to school, when so designated by the supervisor.
Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent or designee according to Board approved evaluation instrument.
